Donald Trump sure knows how to screw his loved ones.

The President's unnecessary trade war ramped up last week after Trump imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from U.S. allies in Europe, Canada, and Mexico. In response, some of the impacted nations quickly promised to retaliate, and that retaliation will (surprise!) hit Trump's base the hardest. In Washington state, that means eastern Washington's apple and potato farmer are about to get real fucked because Mexico just slapped a 20 percent tariff on those crops. THANKS TRUMP!!

With apologies to Washington farmers, I actually think this is a positive development. Trump won most of eastern WA by between 40 and 80 percent. Among his base, he still has approval an rating of almost 90 percent, despite the fact that his only accomplishment in office is passing tax breaks for billionaires and pardoning his friends. According to the Spokesman Review, "The last time Mexico put an extra 20 percent duty on American apples because of a trade dispute, it cost Washington growers $44 million." If anything is going to make eastern Washington voters see beyond the giant, Trump-shaped blind spot where their hearts should be, maybe it will be their own communities losing money.

In response to the tariffs, Governor Jay Inslee said, “We wish Mexico had not taken those actions, but we wish we had an administration that would work together with the world rather than causing losses in our agricultural community.” Unless, I will add for the Governor, it costs him the race. If Trump's going to screw voters, the least they could do is screw him back.
