Can we stop talking about how great Obama was? If he was so great how the fuck did Trump get in?

Lastly we need to end this Neoconservative neoliberal crap now and have a 3rd party with some balls.

2

See what happens when you allow comments, Sean? @1 happens.

@1, I had a political science teacher, Professor Yee, who taught about the American Pendulum, that it can never go full right or full left because of our divided politics. So, why Trump? Well, because the pendulum went about as far left as it could during Obama's era, and then it fell and swung hard right and is going to go about as far right as we can stand, probably for eight years,,,,unless the pendulum gets smashed and stomped in something akin to civil war, with new bolsheviks and new fascists killing one another in Freedom's name,,,,

@3 Most people would disagree that we went too far left. Most pundits would agree this is what happens after the first black president sure.

But Obama admitted and even joked about how he should be a republican. Obama Care was from the conservative think tanks.

It's unfortunate that most Americans don't know how the Democrats got where they are; it started in the 70's when they got hooked on the corporate cash. Then there was the democratic purge.

They never talk about that though; they don't talk about how even the most Lefty Presidents back then actually were pretty conservative (even by todays standards).

Truth is an illusion painted by the people who tell you what to think; if you watch TV and listen to pundits telling you what to think all the time (instead of telling you why they think that way). You will never pull your head out of the sand.

Yet its been 13,678 days since Reagan was inaugurated. Nearly 4 times longer since Obama's inauguration.

6

The Stranger cover when Bush won is interesting.
Throwing tantrums since whenever.
Bush doesn't seem so bad now, does he....

Grow up.
You win some, you lose some.
Democracy is for grown-ups.
The Left still belongs at the kiddie table.

@2 Max Solomon: I love you!
@5: Please---don't remind us of Ronny "Mr. Cue Card" Ray-Gun. Just go back to munching your Krispy Kremes, sugarlips. This week's donut feature should have you already salivating like one of Pavlov's dogs.

8

Sean, I feel so fucking depressed right now. God, I miss former President Barack Obama, #44, our last legitimately twice elected President of the United States.
@6: I think you need a donut.

9

@7: Hmm, I don't ever take note of their weekly specials - but you do. Confess!

America only has a few religiously adhered to cultural beliefs but one of the first is that life at its core is a comedy. It will end happily.
Finally we have to accept the tragic dimension.
This will not end happily.

Only if it's a dozen Krispy Kremes....

Pretty sure @1 & 4, "dumnogenus" is my ol' "centetisright" friend. He's real fun, one of those entertaining blends of blissful ignorance and sanctimonious condescension we've come to love & appreciate here on slog. Welcome back, pal.

14

Nope. Had not been wondering about that. The number of days elapsed since Obama's inauguration did not once cross my mind before I saw the headline.

15

Still, it's good to know exactly how long ago the third term of the Bush Administration began.

16

@3: The story that the pendulum swung far to the left during the Obama era is a deliberate lie, propagated by the right-wing media and believed by far too many. I am disappointed that you believe it too.

Yes, we got a couple of liberal Supreme Court judges, and we got fair treatment for a much oppressed segment of the population in the form of marriage equality. Healthcare was made accessible to a substantial numbers of people who had previously been excluded from insurance, following a largely conservative plan. And that was about it.

Of course, it suits Fox News to pretend that all of this was a huge extreme swing to the left. What they're really saying is: Yes, get married. Yes, have health insurance. But we're going to hold it against you.

It saddens me that even some of my well-educated non-conservative friends have bought into the same narrative.

17

Anyone half an inch to the left of Genghis Khan is a “leftist” to the American rightwingnut.

18

@16:

But it was all done under the watch of a Black Man, so of course the Racist Right would see it that way.

19

I have the last cover included - the one saying Rejoice. Revel. Repeat. - framed at home, to remind myself of how relieved and happy I was the night America elected a reasonable man to lead itself, after 8 years of insanity under GWB. It's hard to look at it the same way now.

We watch a recording of Rachael Maddow's 2016 election night coverage whenever we are feeling blue.
Watching the American voters slap the smirk off her face always cheers us up....

“… the pendulum went about as far left as it could during Obama's era… “ --@3

Right – Obama was a Leftist.
A far Leftist.
The goalposts have been moved, by a complicit, wholly-corps-owned, far-alt-right wing mass media.
When we’re finally down to One, derr KomKastKorps, owning ALL mass media (and access to) in the Americas,
THEN America’s finally gonna be Great again.
Specially if you LOVE total Korps Kontrol.
(They’re People, too, dammit, my friend)
(Really really fucking Rich “people,” but still --)

Get on board – or STFU.

@9: Confess to what? I don't eat donuts, sugarlips,---you do.
@11 & @20 Seattle Stooge: Actually, my comment at @8 was intended to shut you up, but I guess you'd need a double-wide semi load of Krispy Kremes. Your desperate Mein Trumpfy celebrating troll hole must be the depth of the Grand Canyon. Are you sure you're not "thecentrisright"?

23

22
what a silver tongue flatterer you are
stop, we're blushing....

24

@23:

Only you would take being called out as a racist troll as a complement...
