God and westerly winds willing, the smoke currently ruining the finest weeks of summer should clear out of Seattle Wednesday evening... but that doesn't mean it won't be back before long. And, because Seattle is the least air conditioned city in America, life on heavy smoke days can be like a game of Would You Rather. As in, Would you rather open your windows and risk ash lining your lungs or keep the windows closed and die of heat stroke? Personally, I'm getting through this nightmare by reminding myself that I've always wanted an in-home sauna and putting ice cubes in my bong, but, if you have a box fan, there's another way to stay cool and keep your lungs functioning at the same time: Meet the DIY box fan air purifier.

Thanks Appalachian DIY! You're a lifesaver.
