Ahem, ixnay on the Europe-Africa comparison, please?

4

1 & 3) Do you not see my avatar?

7

@5 Surely it couldn't have anything to do with the people who raised them or the country in which they were raised.

8

John "swollen brain" McCain

9

@6) Any chance to bigot, huh?

10

@9

Sure likes the SS monickers.

13

@11: "who's the bigots (sic)"
Hmmmm. That's a tough one. Let me think on that a minute........

Oh! I know!
You. You're the bigot. Through all your many, many screen names, and across these many, many years, the answer has always been you.

14

So you've got McCain is dead but no Kshama Sawant diss's McCain? ( http://mynorthwest.com/1092173/kshama-sawant-attacks-john-mccain/ (how the hell do we add links here now?)) Come'on... it's your chance to point out that "the councilmember does have a point..."

15

@8: I thought you were better than that.

17

@15

Clearly you have been wrong about that, too.

18

@16

Yep, the Trump White House really honors protocol, doesn't it?

19

@15: John "I'll sing a song, for the Viet Cong" McCain

21

RIP John McCain

Good to see typival Seattle sloggers still think ā€œsacrificeā€ means not getting your reach-around.

22

@8: glioblastomas killed my mom 9 years ago this month. it will always be too soon to joke about cancer.

23

jackkay dear, Iā€™m concerned that if you keep sticking your tongue so far up trumpā€™s anus, youā€™re going to sprain it. Itā€™s ok to take a breather every once awhile.

24

So depressing that there are stock photos available about questioning vaccination.

25

@22

Condolences.

27

26: Councilmember Sawant is a Trump whiteknight?

28

16: From the Washington Post article quoting that section of code: ā€œ....But presidents have the power to issue proclamations extending that period and have done so routinely.ā€

@27: Funny how McCain was an unabashed racist, lobbied hard for the Iraq war, lobbied hard for war in Iran, wanted to rescind MLK day, endorsed George Wallace, fought to keep confederate flags flying over courthouses, claimed he wanted to start wars in North Korea and Libya if he was elected in 2008, implied that Arabs could not be decent people, voted against federal funds for mass transit, opposed a federal minimum wage, opposed equal pay legislation, routinely voted against legislation for environmental protection, voted against abortion rights and voted for legislation defining life as starting at conception, voted against comprehensive sex education funding, wanted to reinstate the draft, was a proponent of school vouchers, wanted more spending for the War on Drugs, did not want marriage equality, and voted against the ENDA act to stop discrimination of LGBT folks.

But now we are supposed to call him some great, honorable hero because he died?

No thanks.

The flag code may state that two days is standard, but four days for sitting Senators is customary. Especially respected, long-service Senators.

32

I've had measles (I was a baby, too young to vaccinate, before measles shots were even a thing anyway). You don't want measles. No one wants measles. Vaccinate your damn kids. I mean it. Measles are really really bad.

34

@4: I don't see how Rocky Dennis has any bearing on anything.

Yeah, I can't really join in the McCain worship. He might have been a great member of the armed forces, and I won't diminish what he did while a POW, but he was a pretty terrible senator. He totally compromised his values during his 2008 run (and I was actually excited at the prospect of a reasonable GOP candidate at the start, until he clearly started listening to his handlers more than his own conscience), and we have him to thank for Sarah Palin and the rest of the Wasilla Hillbillies being household names. Sure, he gave a thumbs-down to dismantling the ACA, but it was his last(?) vote, and he literally had nothing to lose.

35

@30: So for some reason, you are hell bent on trashing McCain so you cherry pick things he's voted with Republicans on (well, he was a Republican) as if to say that he's not the progressive you've always wanted him to be. However, I don't think progressive describe your own political disposition.

But, for the record, here's McCain apologizing for not having called for the removal of the Confederate battle flag from the South Carolina Statehouse, saying that he had compromised his principals out of political self-interest.

36

@34: Not the kind of guy that wanted worship anyway.

37

@33: imaginary, no. hereditary, yes. good luck to you and your family history.

38

Obviously, the best and classiest way to criticize someone who has just died for not being as progressive as you are pretending to be is to make fun of their cause of death. It's just sad that Teddy missed his opportunity to make some good prison rape jokes at McCain's expense.

39

@33 - Dark humor is only acceptable in the right context. Having family members who have died of cancer (count me in) doesn't gain you in leeway in respecting that.

40

Note to writer: Measles is a disease, not a countable noun, so in the headline, "Measles" should be singular. "There is measles in King County" (or "There are cases of measles in King County").

41

@36: Yeah, I believe you're right about that.

42

@23 Catalina Vel-DuRay: You fucking ROCK! I love you! Keep on kicking serious ass and taking names.

43

I remember when it was old, joyless evangelicals who would get mad and say they had a right to tell people how to speak and think.

Now it is old, joyless liberal cat ladies.

Go write a letter to ABC about dirty words if you need some time to kill, and remember that if anything is ok to joke about, everything is, even when it makes you personally butthurt. Also, stop whining. It makes you look weak and foolish.
