I was worried about that too. How crazy would it be if he dropped the spoon late in the evening and couldn't summon help before an angry dog came up and chewed his face off? He should affix a magnet to the roof of his mouth with a wad of chewed up bubble gum so as to help secure the spoon.

@6 I didn't think of the dog angle, but I thought that this performance can only be called true art if his life is really at stake, as in, he drops the spoon, no one can help him and he dies of dehydration. Any kind of magnet or spoon-fetching assistant would kind of undermine the statement (unless... that IS the statement..?).
