Why is his wife showing her knees? Is she some kind of slut?

(Not that there's anything wrong with being some kind of slut.)

2

Yawn. The rampant dishonesty from the Dem's upsets me (rampant dishonesty from the GOP is par for the course). The only reason anyone's calling for an investigation is because they hope to delay the nomination vote. That's it, full stop. It's zero percent about sexual harassment, it's just the Communist Scare of our time.

I don't understand why anyone can't just say that?

I find Blasey Ford's story totally plausible, although Kavanaugh's denials are also plausible. Ford hasn't exactly repped herself well, the blatant sandbagging on appearing to testify really put her motives into question. The problem with an investigation is that it will be one that can't possibly be acted on and is meaningless on it's own.

Ironically, #believewomen invalidates any investigation anyhow - no votes will be changing regardless of what an investigation shows, even if they somehow get a video tape proving conclsuively that the incident did or did not happen. Elizabeth Warren is never going to say "Now that I've seen the tape showing that Blasey Ford was lying and the incident never occurred, I now recommend confirming Kavanaugh" - he was a Hard No before any allegations at all! At given what we've seen with Trump, who no GOP senator is saying no to presently, no one's going to see a tape of Kavanaugh committing the crime and switch to a No vote.

The investigation is pure theater. Let's not indulge theater, please. The DNC needs to come out and say "This is Merrick Garland's rightful seat, and we will oppose any Trump nomination until that original sin is corrected; before or after the midterm elections, Garland or an Obama appointee is the only legitimate holder of that seat". Because that's the truth. Don't be scared of it.

3

@1: No, as long as she's not wearing white shoes after labor day, she's fine.

4

@2: everyone is always complaining that Democrats don't know how to fight, don't have a sense for theater, and lose because they're too cerebral. Now they're clearly kicking some ass against odds, are getting the theater right, and aren't overthinking it, so you come along and say, "no, no... go back to being bad at politics."

Kavanaugh will probably get confirmed. Or some other asshole. But Dems are making them pay a price for it. That's good politics.

5

Not interested in watching, but is it true that his wife Ofbrett was prevented from answering a question when Kavanaugh interrupted?

6

Sportlandia, politics aside, why would a professional woman put her head up to cop the threats this woman and her family have. Sheā€™s credible because of her standing in the community and now others are coming forward and being brave as well. You have no idea the rage these women will be getting subjected to. Not because of love for this tool of a man Brett, but because how dare women try to railroad a manā€™s career with her abuse accusations.
This may seem like a made up drama to you, to millions and millions of women itā€™s a time for reckoning. Donā€™t you get it? Untold numbers of girls and women have been subjected to sexual assault/ rape and shut up about it. And now the dam has broken, lots of men are scared shitless.

7

@6: Not really honest to say "politics aside" and then ask why someone would make a politically charged and impeccably timed claim such as this against a hated political appointment during such a politically polarizing time.

9

Heaven forbid a woman, whose rights hang in the balance on what SCOTUS decides, might suddenly be motivated to be involved when her RAPIST is a nominee.

10

@8: No u.

11

@4 they're not kicking ass, this dude will be confirmed the Dems and their investigation are merely speed bumps. They give the appearance of "fighting" but ultimately their impact remains nil.

@6 "because it's true"? Ford doesn't need to be lying for this to be a silly play by the DNC. They still feel like they need legitimate cover for a delay tactic, so Ford, Ramirez, this new lady, Over The Top you go! Because they can't actually say we're they're trying to delay... For no particular reason other than lack of imagination.

Kavanaugh could admit to it all today, subvert the investigation, and still be confirmed. Because the Dems don't have the chutzpah to openly admit what everyone knows is true.

12

@11:

Recent polling shows support for the GOP, the current administration, and Judge Kavenaugh himself cratering - most particularly among young adult and middle-aged women. Even if Kavenaugh is appointed - not quite yet a certainty as the full Senate still needs to vote once his nomination is passed out of the Judiciary Committee - this will have a major long-term impact on Republicans, which of course is precisely why they're trying to ram this through before the midterms, when they are now very likely to lose the House, and quite possibly the Senate as well. Their goal is simple: do as much damage to the system as they can before that, and leave the Democrats with a heaping pile of shit to try to clean up after they're done, including a reactionary SCOTUS and a bat-shite crazy Executive.

13

Kavanaugh is guilty, if nothing else, of being an embarrassing little shit in high school. ā€œHey, I was a virgin, but I went around saying I was slaying all the pussy, because I wanted to be cool. It makes me cool to say ā€˜Renate Alumniusā€™ [sic] on my yearbook page, right?ā€

And who keeps his calendar from 1982?

What a pathetic putz.

I totally believe the allegations, but his real defense is: ā€œI wasnā€™t trying to rape her. I thought she totally wanted my hog.ā€

14

So now that there are three accusers that have come forward (and one more rumored yet to be vetted and made public) to derail this poor, innocent noble man, I marvel at the ingenuity of the democrats to orchestrate three random women who all knew Kavanaugh at various points in his past to lie about sexual assault.

I note the consistent theme amoung our usual shit bags in here. That itā€™s these overzealous #MeToo-ers that are the REAL problem. You know. Not millennia of rape and abuse. Not a culture and legal system that perpetuates abuse. Not the fact that false accusations make up a minuscule fraction of accusations. Not the fact that literally nobody wants to see innocent people punished (except I guess the men who want to rape victims perpetually denied justice). Not the fact that most rapes go unreported because of exactly this sort of distorted misogynistic bullshit.

Nope. See. Ladies just need to shut up unless they meet some impossible standard of proof (got them rape kits, DNA samples, three impartial male witnesses...).

This a loop over and over. From Cosby to Weinstein to Mienert to Kavanaugh. Always itā€™s those nosey mouthy bitchez thatā€™s the problem.

Itā€™s at least consistent Iā€™ll give them that.

15

Also the there are bizarre contradictory arguments constantly floated that either ā€œKavanaugh is innocent until proven guiltyā€ as if he WAS charged with a crime and was in a court of law (itā€™s not itā€™s a job interview) or then claiming that an ā€œinvestigation is pointless?ā€

No. Finding the facts of a thirty year old case is PRECISELY what investigations are for. And since this isnā€™t a court of law and there are not two opposing equally weighted adversarial counsels adjudicating and cross examining witnesses before an impartial jury an investigation is to show CREDIBILITY. There are witnesses that can be interviewed. There is testimony under oath that can be verified for alignment to known facts. There are patterns of behavior and character that can be outlined and researched. Thatā€™s what the FBI does.

The point of an investigation is not to prove beyond a reasonable doubt who committed a crime. This isnā€™t TV. An investigation is bolster the facts surrounding statements of character. Thatā€™s what FBI background checks and security clearances do very well.

And the kicker is if getting the most qualified Justice possible is what is important than an investigation is a win, win.

They delay and investigate Kavanaugh is found more truthful, he gets confirmed and the democrats are humiliated and exposed.

They delay and investigate and Kavanaugh is found to be lying he is disqualified for lying under oath (though he already has in the 1990ā€™s) and the Right gets credit for doing it ethically and they STILL get to nominate a rightwing stooge to the court.

So why is it the only people against an investigation are Kavanaugh and his supporters?

Because they want a partisan operative in SCOTUS who will back Trump in the Russia investigations more than they care if heā€™s a rapist.

They sure as shit donā€™t care about guilt or innocence.

16

@12: It's funny, I have been hearing about support for the republican party cratering and collapsing for the last 15 years or so, and yet here they are, controlling the majority of state houses, and governorships, in addition to majorities in both houses, the presidency, and a likely majority on the Supreme Court.

Kind of seems like wishful thinking, considering how consistent GOP voters are year after year.

17

@16 nice deflection and derail.

But. yes. The republicans have fought a long, cunning, somewhat brilliant and venal campaign of lies, distortions and dirty tricks. Exploiting racist fears to win by the narrowest of margins. In an election cycle where a record 80 million registered voters didnā€™t vote. And by using the combined forces of a former KGB agentā€™s foreign intelligence service and a shady network of international corporate dark money. By doing so they have undone the public faith and confidence in every institution and level of government built by hard work over 200 years.

Hats off. I guess.

Before that you heard a black liberal with a funny name would never win the presidency. The popular vote and electoral vote. By the widest margins in a decade. With record turnout. Twice.

The fact is the electorate is almost evenly split. And for republicans to win they need people to NOT vote. Thatā€™s the type of civic involvement republicans want. None.

18

Has he never sexually assaulted anyone? Or has he? I was unclear from the interview.

God, heā€™s a fucking windup doll. Memorized two phrases. Itā€™s going to suck when a gasbag who clearly thinks women are walking fleshlights gets confirmed and then gets to rule on how to interpret equal protection under the law.

ā€œOK, they still get to vote, but they donā€™t get special treatment, like free tampons or Title IX.ā€

19

@17: "Responding directly to the subject at hand is a deflection, but not me bringing up a vast right wing conspiracy"

Make sure your helper reminds you to breathe this morning.
