I love when you write Kim Selling! This is good stuff right here.

This review is as overblown as the film.

think about it generationally: the last one came out when 1/4 of America wasn't even alive. why not throw 50 mil at a remake? low risk.

and there weren't as many conservative whipipo into country music. they still aren't into actual country music, but they think they are.

yes, I am saying republicountry isn't actual country music.

This is the third remake I can recall and I still don't like the premise. Tired, saggy and boring. (An aside, was Midler's The Rose supposed to be a remake of Star? Can't remember, don't care. Enjoyed this review though!)

Frankly, Kim, I don't give a shit about what you perceive as "poor timing".

The first version of the story, with Janet Gayner (who dat?) was a cliche when it was filmed waaaay back then. So what? Obviously, the story has legs because this is now its fourth incarnation. And each new filming has made money. Hell, it's just a riff Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion (remember My Fair Lady?). C'mon let's now pile on old George, shall we?

It's definitely on my must see list in spite of everything you wrote.

This is the definition of white feminism. Liberals love to act like they’re socially aware by writing bullshit like this but the reality is this movie is all about a talented woman as a character and an actress doing what she does best. Performing. She will win best actress at the Oscars.
