• Just ten days ago, President Trump said Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was "a very credible witness." Today he said she was part of a "hoax" perpetrated by "people that are evil."


• Tonight, newly installed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is expected at a special (and totally unnecessary, and thoroughly redundant) “swearing-in ceremony” at Trump's White House. In The New York Times, a law professor explains why Kavanaugh shouldn't show:

Like all new justices, Justice Kavanaugh took a judicial oath in which he swore to “faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me.” But in the wake of his highly politicized remarks at his confirmation hearings, a large portion of the country has doubts that he will live up to that noble aspiration. He needs to demonstrate the independence and neutrality that he himself has stressed is essential to the work of the Supreme Court. A first step would be to politely decline to go to the White House for the ceremony.

• Trump, though, is clearly looking forward to tonight's victory lap—and he's saying that talk of impeaching Kavanaugh is “an insult to the American public." But, um... A majority of the American public opposed Kavanaugh's nomination. Also: the Senators who put Kavanaugh on the bench represent less than half the country, and the president who nominated Kavanaugh won only 46 of the popular vote. Aaaaalso:


• "We had a good talk," Trump says of his conversation with Rod Rosenstein today aboard Air Force One. The president currently has "no plans" to fire the man overseeing the Russia investigation.
