Fuck transit..I'm driving to work and sucks if you have kids

2

Seattle is rich and should continue to withstand the early effects of climate change better than most places for a while. So... it is probably the kids of Seattle that should take up smoking, not the adults.

I always wonder if there exists any young people who characterize themselves as politically conservative who have any intellectual curiosity whatsoever.
All the ones I ever hear of are frantically parroting the ugliest, most thoughtless bullet points on the right-wing agenda.
Because if such young people did exist I wonder how they would come to grips with the fact they are inheriting a dying planet? Why no anger at the completely irresponsible behavior of an entire generation who have borne witness to the degradation of the natural world in their own lifetime yet refuse to acknowledge it?
Why do those (hypothetical) young people tolerate the blatant dishonesty? Why no anger at being forced to confine themselves to living all their lives in guarded enclaves while the rest of the world spirals into chaos. The rich, the privileged, in the world unfolding before our eyes, will have to live as prisoners behind walls and wire, constantly surveilled by cameras.
A 2 degree C world may be less hellish for them but it will still be hell in comparison to what previous generations have known.

Actually, I thought the IPCC was pretty upbeat by telling us we could still avoid 2degC if we started to act now. Don't give a way out for deniers to say "oh well, it's too late now" (otherwise known as the nth stage of climate denial)

On a different note: so, what about those climate alarmists?
It should pretty clear to anyone who has paid attention that the IPCC reports have always been very conservative in assessing the impact of climate change because of political pressure. As time has gone by, previsions have gotten worse and worse in spite of the sanctimonious warning of the self-proclaimed moderates who it turns out were simply simpletons shamed into not rocking the boat.

Hysteria is not science.

10

@8 Your climate science denialism is duly noted. Despite your usual pretense to the opposite (absent here) you are just as much a dead-ender extremist as the other regressive trolls in here.

11

@9: I do not deny what I can't change. I just wish the climate hysterics, like yourself I guess, would come to terms with that as well.

12

@11 refers to @10. Sorry jackkay.

13

@11 Your senseless drivel won't be enough to hide that you are denying the science about the impacts of climate change, which as the IPCC just told you was about whether we could avoid catastrophic change. Dimwit.

14

@13 - I take issue with hysteria, I donโ€™t have an issue with the science.

NATURE BATS LAST!

@4 - "the fact they are inheriting a dying planet? "

The planet is not "dying". That's a ludicrious statement. What is happening is that the biosphere is becoming less hospitable and conducive to human living conditions. And many animals' living conditions. Also some plants.

The planet will be fine, it's been through MUCH worse. Life will be fine, it's also been through much worse and it will almost certainly continue. Humans too, will likely survive, although we'll be busted back down to smaller groups for an unknown number of centuries (millenia?) until the climate becomes more hospitable again. And then, viral expansion once more!

Hopefully we can leave enough information to future generations so they don't make the same mistakes we made. They can't burn more oil, cuz we'll have gone through most of it; but maybe they won't succumb to mass brainwashing and elect Trumpet again.
