Sour grapes

@3 In a more well educated and sane populous, all the Democrats would have to do is point to the Republicans and say, "We're not perfect, and I'm sure you don't agree with us on everything, but those guys (pointing to the Republicans) are a bunch of crooks, Fascists, and rapists, and win every single election. If we had better schools, and comprehensive mental health care available as a human right, there would be no Republican Party.

From my readings in the conservative press, their problem with the Kavanaugh hearings were twofold:

1) A lot of people seemed to get freaked out by the enraged reaction by protesters. The word "mob" was tossed around quite a bit. Remember how crazy and deranged the Tea Party came across? That's what a lot of Kavanaugh protests looked like to people who lean Republican, i.e. exactly the people we are trying to attract. Screaming at politicians in restaurants may feel good in a stigginit kind of way but isn't productive.

2) In the Kavanaugh case, we saw a big conflation between the problem of sexual harassment, abuse, and violence generally and the particulars of this one case. By their very nature, sexual assaults are often difficult to prosecute, especially when they occurred years ago. The evidence in this case came down to she said he did (and had been for some time), he said he didn't, and the only other person alleged to have been there, Mark Judge, strongly denied (although not under oath) the accusation.

The problem here is that Kavanaugh was turned into a symbol for sexual abuse when he ought to have been tried on the merits as an individual.

Now that is just the right wing Republican perspective, which obviously is flawed. But the point is, the Republicans now can point to the whole three-ring circus and tell GOP leaners and independents, "Is this what you really want? Mob rule and judges railroaded?" And a lot of them, to include Never-Trumpers (I've seen a lot of them upset by the Kavanaugh hearings) will shake their heads no and fall in line.

Which may well be what's happening in the 8th CD.

Sharp analysis @5. But you seem too smart to be here so, you know, move along.

7

@1 Max Solomon: I was wondering about that, too. Meanwhile, the crooks in the 8th District are buying mafia don Dino Rossi's seat. How repulsively sad.

8

Where the fuck are all these stupid women in the 8th District voting Rossi? I'd like to punch their lights out.

9

Seems to me that Republican women and mothers have let themselves be convinced that their husbands and sons are raping at a way way higher rate than they actually are, so they are ready to go to the mat to protect them. Just got clearer to me why those GOP operative women in FLA were so happy to go on the records saying that ALL teenage boys do what Kavanaugh was accused of doing. Sheesh, these are weird ass times.

@4: Pretending that everyone who disagrees with you is either uneducated or insane may feel good, but it's an incredibly dumb and serves only your ego.

America is in the top ten of educated countries in the world:

Your view of "sanity" seems to be wholly dependent on how much people are exactly like you, so it is meaningless and undeserving of any closer look.

"Schrier's Liars" are taking hold. Worse than the Kavanaugh accusers. Loosely based on fact. Shameful.

12

Schrier bet most of her campaign on women only. I got a mailing that had 14 (!) images of voting age women, and zero men. Men are constantly ignored by her campaign yet we are like, what, 50% of the voters? I called her office early to point out this wasn't gonna work in eastern Washington. I am voting for her but if she loses...

13

Schier was going to have the toughest time beating Rossi. I think Dems lost when she won the primary. It would have been nice if the outside groups that gave her such big dollars would have been more patient and got to know the district before siding with her.

14

The fact that crosscut polled those numbers should scare the hell out of moderate progressives.

The Alt-Left have overplayed their hand, and there will be a political price to pay for it. Unfortunately they are going to take us all--moderate progressive--down with them politically.

15

I am so tired of the "Liars for Schrier" campaign. Worse than the Kavanaugh accusers. Disgusting!

16

@12 That's the weak link in that campaigns chain. You can't ignore 50% of the voters, and at the same time demand they support you or are sexist.

I only voted once for someone based on identity politics, and that was my Hillary vote. It won't happen again. I voted for Obama both times because of other issues that had nothing to do with race. In fact a friend of mine was livid I voted for Obama in 2008, and supported him through the party fight because she thought I should vote for Hillary because she's a female. Fuck that.

Tell you what, Trump may be a shit talker, and nearly every other thing he's been accused of, but to say he isn't fulfilling, or making a hard run at fulfilling his campaign promises is the whole reason people voted for him. He might say he's going to do some things that the Alt-Left become unhinged about, but he does them.

18

@16: If Adolf Hitler were still alive in 2018 would you believe he was right because "he did everything he said he'd do", too?!

20

@14 There is no such thing as the Alt-Left, and only Fascists, and the ignorant claim there is. The Alt-Right call themselves that because they are trying to claim that they are not to old far-right of the KKK and the American Nazi Party but a newer and more modern version of White Nationalism. They are Alt because they are new, and separate groups from the old right. The contemporary far left has never tried to claim to be different from the old left. In fact, most of the organizations on the left trace back to groups active 100 years ago, and we are proud of our long history of working class activism. We proudly look back to our Anarchist and Socialist ancestors in the early labor movement. The Democratic Socialists of America is the modern version of a Socialist Party that Eugene Debs would feel at home in. The IWW of Centralia Massacre is the same IWW organizing Burgerville workers at the Centralia Burgerville in 2018. We are not new or alternative; we are the same crowd that has been fighting for the working class for over 100 years. The message is the same now as it was back then: Workers of the World, unite! You have nothing to lose but your chains!

21

Go Rossi!!!!!! I'm bummed that I can only vote for you once!
