Thanks for this Jasmyne. He looks amazing. I’ll check his music.

Aaand now he's in California, dang it. Thanks for the writeup, he sounds like a great live show.

A great show. Minor point. I recall that he raised his fist as a sign to the rest of the band that he was bringing the song to an end. Bandleader move.

I first saw Kamasi playing at the Red Rocks with Melvin Seals, Gloria Jones, Jackie La Branch and Oteil Burbridge in what was billed as the Jerry Garcia Birthday Band. Shows where Jerry asked saxophonists like Branford Marsalis to sit in are some of the best shows he did with bands. Kamasi would have totally been Jer's shit. He's pure music and I have since bought all his LPs except those he did with Throttle Elevator Music and they are on the list!

The Showbox was amazing on Wednesday night and I will not miss a Kamasi show if ever I have half a chance. Beautiful, raw, chaotic, subtly provoking stuff. I hope he sits in with Dead and Company in the years to come.

@3 oh--word, that makes more sense, but I kinda like that it could read either way. especially for those less versed in bandleader moves (meaning me)

Headline writer could do with a refresher course in journalism. Profanity asside, I thought a serious crime had been committed.

It was a fantastic show and even more so in the same 10 day period that Sons of Kemet were also in town. Check them out as well, and other projects of their leader Shabaka Hutchings.

Hey, here's a video of them playing together https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzBnTgH5VRo
