What do we do will all this soda tax money? So, it turns out the soda tax implemented this year was super fucking effective. The city expects the tax to raise $21 million by the end of the year—substantially more than the $15 million projected. All of the money was supposed to go toward healthy-food and education programs. Mayor Jenny Durkan wants to spread those funds elsewhere. She’s eyeing the excess money to balance her overall budget.

Nearly one-third of San Juan ferries out for repair: Washington State Ferries has reduced its scheduled trips to the San Juan Islands due to ferry repairs. There are seven boats out of service. But, this was planned. Ferry demand reduces in the fall. The reduced service will last until Nov. 4.

Save Saba Ethiopian: The restaurant has been in its 12th Ave location since 1940. It likely won’t qualify for landmark status. A developer is slated to buy the land to build new apartments. Councilmember Kshama Sawant has rallied her supporters to help “Save Saba" and fight gentrification.

A bipartisan group of state legislators want to save edibles: Earlier this month, the Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board said they would be banning certain kinds of edibles. Now, a bipartisan group of influential state legislators today asked the LCB to "reconsider the announced ban." Lester Black has more.

Proud Boys arrested for Manhattan fight: The far-right group got into a fight earlier this month with Antifa members. Three Proud Boys were charged with riot and assault today. A fourth was arrested on Thursday. You can tell which one the Proud Boys are because they’re all wearing that same black polo, MAGA hats, and khakis.


Michael Avenatti is being evicted from his law firm: Avenatti, Stormy Daniels’s lawyer and former owner of Tully’s, does not subscribe to the Lannister way of doing things—he never repaid an old debt. Avenatti owes a former colleague $4.8 million. He also didn’t pay four months worth of rent for his law offices.
