Well that didn't last long. Less than 24 hours after calling for "unity" in light of some terrorist sending bombs to prominent Democrats through the U.S. mail, Trump is back to attacking the media again. At least he's consistent? From the New York Times:

Rather than trying to pull together an angry, anxious country during a wave of apparent pipe bombs sent to some of the president’s most prominent critics, Mr. Trump lashed out, blaming perceived enemies for the toxic political environment that opponents say he himself has encouraged. Never a unifier by nature, Mr. Trump followed his instinct for pushing back, abandoning the brief and scripted call for national unity issued the day before.

“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News,” he wrote on Twitter on Thursday morning as authorities discovered more pipe bombs targeting his critics. “It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!”

As a caravan of poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free walk towards the U.S. from their homelands, Trump sends in the troops. From NBC News:

The Department of Homeland Security has requested additional troops for the U.S. border as a migrant caravan approaches and reports are that 800 personnel could be deployed.

The troops are likely going to be active duty but a final determination has not yet been made, nor on the exact number that will be sent, a U.S. official told NBC News. The troops are expected to be in place by the end of the month.

Your nephew's walkie-talkie is more secure than Donald's iPhone. From Business Insider:

President Donald Trump took to Twitter to respond to a recent New York Times article that reported he routinely uses his unsecured iPhones to speak with friends and associates instead of using a secure White House phone line.

"I only use Government Phones, and have only one seldom used government cell phone," Trump said in a tweet sent from his account. He added, "Story is soooo wrong!"

While this is hardly the first time Trump has been critical of The New York Times' reporting about him, eagle-eyed Twitter users quickly noticed something about the tweet itself: It was sent from an iPhone.

Trump did or did not text voters in Kansas to tell them some bullshit about their votes not being recorded. From NBC News:

Kansas election officials are reviewing text messages claiming to be from President Donald Trump and telling residents that their early votes hadn't been recorded, as Democratic leaders worried Thursday that they were part of efforts to "steal" a close governor's race.

State Elections Director Bryan Caskey said the Kansas secretary of state's office received 50 or 60 calls about the texts Wednesday, mostly from the northeastern part of the state. Caskey said the office is trying to determine whether the texts broke a law before determining what to do next.

One text says "Your absentee ballot is ready. Remember to vote for Pres. Trump's allies." A follow-up text says, "This is President Trump. Your early vote has NOT been RECORDED on Kansas's roster." It urges the voter to confirm his or her polling place.

Democrats are on edge because Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, the state's top elections official, is a Trump ally and the Republican nominee for governor. He's in a dead heat with Democratic state Sen. Laura Kelly after defeating GOP Gov. Jeff Colyer in the August primary by only 343 votes out of more than 317,000 cast.

Finally, some good news: The Trump Foundation, the "charitable" wing of the family fortune and/or a thinly-veiled cover for Trump's beanie baby business (allegedly), is in court fighting a lawsuit over their (allegedly) shady practices. From CNN:

The New York attorney general's office and lawyers for President Donald Trump's charitable foundation are set to face off in court Thursday over the state's civil lawsuit that alleges the charity violated campaign finance laws and abused its tax-free status.

In State Supreme Court in Manhattan, a judge is set to hear oral arguments in the Trump team's effort to dismiss the lawsuit, which was filed in June. The suit alleges that the Donald J. Trump Foundation and its directors — including Trump, his sons Eric and Donald Jr. and his daughter Ivanka — violated federal and state charities law with a "persistent" pattern of conduct that included unlawful coordination with the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.

At times during the presidential race, the lawsuit alleges, for example, Trump campaign staffers were permitted to direct the charity's expenditures, and in certain cases those expenditures appeared to benefit groups that were politically valuable to the then-candidate.
