Most law enforcement groups are against I-940.

How come you didn't mention that?

2

@1 - at the end of the article, she mentions the opposition.

I'm a retired Dallas, TX, cop, and I support the initiative. If cops were held accountable for their bad shoots, then maybe trust in them would increase to some degree, which in turn makes their jobs easier.

We used the "reasonable officer/person" standard in Texas, and it worked fine. Cops still got away with bad shoots...but not as much as they seem to here. It won't harm policing, no matter what the doomsayers say.

@1&3: IDK, I think I'll listen to Morty over you two armchair crime fighters.

5

@2: How do you think passage of the measure will affect recruitment?

6

@5 Hopefully, by keeping people who get their jollies from the idea of walking around with a badge and a gun from applying.

7

@6: Thank you. But that's not a primary motivation and a rather sophomoric characterization of the factors involved being considered by young adults as they ponder law enforcement as a career.

8

@5 - Not one iota.

I voted for it. This endorsement is a little too late to impact the vote.
