I mostly agree with the counterpoint, except for the final episode of the series. Most of the series is action-heavy style and fun, but with little emotional punch. The last episode kind of reveals why. Admittedly, they could have made that point in a four-episode FLCL-style thing, but who's to say?
Netflix did a live-action Bleach a few months ago and it wasn't terrible. Also Mob Pyscho 100 (it missed the point) and that one about the kids at the gambling-themed high school (never watched, no opinion). I don't get why they keep doing these things but whatever.
I think both Henriksen and Smith are right - its both a type-specimen quality example of late 90s seinan and a little bit vapid and cliched. Maybe the remake will be better! It certainly wont do the original any harm.
BOOOO!! It's been over 20 years and I for one am glad to see a revival. Admittedly what I would prefer is a remake where they simply reanimate the original to be 16:9 ratio and 4K resolution, but I hold out hope for this. Worst case scenario is it sucks and I don't watch it.
Potential Side Benefit: A re-release of the original Cowboy Bebop soundtrack albums. I want lossless audio available and not have to worry that a CD is really a Chinese counterfeit made with MP3 quality audio.

I eagerly look forward to the Internet tearing itself apart when John Krasinski is inevitably cast for the role of Spike.
