The Voters made it pretty clear that they don't support a Carbon tax. The folks in Olympia should respect that.

Wow, the only thing more inspiring than this climate package is the prospect of a Jay Inslee presidential run. I will admit it's better than nothing. Maybe that's how they can promote this, as the "Better than Nothing Plan."

And listen, I'm not saying Inslee's wrong to get behind this milquetoast measure. As @1 indicates, it's an admission of political reality, a reality Inslee had a chance to change back in 2016 with I-732, the closest thing we had to a revenue-neutral, equitable carbon price, when he could have helped improve it and then rally support for it. This year's Frankenstein's monster of a ballot initiative? I held my nose and voted for it, but it hardly reflects on Inslee's leadership or vision that that's the best insiders' measure we could get.

It’s like Inslee wants yellow vests coming to Olympia to smash things up.

"the only thing more inspiring than this climate package is the prospect of a Jay Inslee presidential run."

Followed by a million yellow vests hitting the streets.

@4 I was a supporter of both I-732 and I-1631, and though I appreciated the proposed investments in I-1631, the yellow vest protests have made me think the revenue neutral I-732 maybe a better target moving forward. The poor in France are justifiably angry at having to shoulder the burden for a highly regressive tax, but if they were getting back more than they paid (as would be the case in most revenue neutral schemes) it would be much easier to swallow. Especially since rates of anthropogenic climate change skepticism are rather low in France.
