What a creative reason to drink.

2

Abstinence is the only 100% effective method of prevention.

I've only had a few hangovers in my life but what I've had PLENTY of were wine headaches, even after a small amount.....until I met a vintner at an outdoor event who told me they're histamine mediated, probably from the venom of bugs and spiders that get crushed with the grapes. Since then I just pop a Claritin (loratadine) daily and voila! No more headaches ever.

@3:

I always presumed it had something to do with the sulfites added to most wines (the wife and I usually imbibe organic wines to avoid these), but the presence of histamines also makes a lot of sense - and probably not much that can be done about those.

Isn’t this approach inherently flawed? What evidence is there that the way his body responded necessarily correlates with how anyone else’s will?

6

@5 - good point. We are all wired differently. MORE SCIENCE REQUIRED!

"And I don't know where you can find a steady supply of NAC"

Here, let me google that for you: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=N-acetylcysteine

8

"
Side effects
Up to 18% of patients have been reported to experience anaphylaxis reaction,
[...]
Adverse effects for oral formulations of acetylcysteine have been reported to include nausea, vomiting, rash, and fever.
[...]
Although N-acetylcysteine prevented liver damage when taken BEFORE alcohol, when taken four hours AFTER alcohol it made liver damage WORSE in a dose-dependent fashion.
"

Is any of this in the book?

I think I'm going to stick with "drink less than hangover levels".

9

@4, that's what people say but since learning about the insects I've read widely on this, and sulfites are not thought to be the problem. But you keep on drinking organic because the viniculture practices are better for the environment.

10

@2 - that is brilliant! ...was that the title of your Catholic School Sr. Project?

10 MG of edible cannabis an hiur or tiw after the cessation of drinking has been 100% effective for me. I never go beyond 5 Beers, however. Don't know how well it works after a night of really heavy drinking.
