I’ve got the best name for the team: the Lahars...the Seattle Lahars. Tsunamis aren’t cold enough.

This is the best news.

@2, so true, so true.

We get so used to bad news that we fail to appreciate truly good news, and for me NHL Seattle has been just one surreally good news item after another:
* The stampede for season-ticket reservations.
* The plan to build what could be one of the world's best ice-sports facilities in Northgate.
* The actual awarding of the franchise.
* The Angry Beaver in Greenwood getting featured afterwards in a New York Times story.

Now the fact that KEXP will be curating the arena music?! That's just like unbelievably awesome when my bar for unbelievably awesome has already been raised ridiculously high.

Disclaimer 1. Yes, I realize this is just sportsball entertainment news and not real news.
Disclaimer 2. Yes, I realize I am easily entertained.

Krautrock is unlikely. Tepid indie rock is more likely. I have to say, I agree mostly with Joemama above. I don't hear the station as much these days since I moved south, but the whole "you are not alone" thing sounds awful. As someone with mental health issues, that treacly positivity sounds cloying.

6

I still hope to someday see a Seattle Sasquatches team.

I hope they lean on the station's metal and punk dj's, e.g., seek and destroy and sonic reducer, for music for the games. Outside of those shows, I don't associate KEXP with edgy music, eclectic sure, but definitely not edgy. An aggressive sport with speed and skill such as hockey requires hard edgy music, not Modest fucking Mouse.

The Seattle Hud gets my vote. (Hud translates from Salish to English as "Fire"). Pronunciation may be HUUD--like 'tune'---or HODE--like 'tone'. Gotta find a real American to ask.

@7, I hope they don't just pay lip service to the notion of including non-KEXP music. I recall the Anaheim Ducks have been pretty clever about putting together an eclectic mix of music to get the fans riled up.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of people with far better taste than I, there's a lot of hard rock and dance-pop and country that would go well with a hockey game. I could name some artists' names, but I don't want anyone hunting me down and killing me.

Great, now Seattle has managed to make hockey pretentious.

@7 have you ever fucking heard Modest fucking Mouse? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sT0qBdHLspQ
