Thank you to all the bus drivers, streetcar operators, and facilities personnel who volunteered to work for free this New Years.

Oh wait....

1 - So what? Doesn't mean it's not a good thing to do.

4

Thank you for this potentially life-saving post!

5

@2 OMG what a brilliant why to destroy your own narrative, let us all bow down to the master.

6

@1 That is true for most things considered "free"? Free ride, free lunch, free beer, free samples (I'm sure the folks at the grocery stores just love it as you explain how the free food isn't really free).

If we are not Always extracting Maximum Value
from the Citizenry, then we are simply Lousy Capitalists.

What do "Healthcare" Insurance Corps always say?
They Always say, 'Just say "Hell, NO!" to Medicare for all.'

What's the Republican 'replacement' for the ACA?
'Let 'em Die!'

Cause if there's no Profit
there's no Point.

Happy New Year, Profiteers!

Disheartening that progressives can't be heartened by civic altruism when it occurs.

9

Look at it from a purely profit driven perspective: keeping transit running past the normal hours means higher sales for bars and restaurants, and less insurance claims, police calls and public heath costs. The extra pay collected by the employees (both service employees and public employees) goes back into the local economy. About the only “losers” in the scenario are the parking lot operators and Uber/left/cab driver, but I am sure they did fine.

10

Those operators and drivers probably didn't notice a decrease. Their customers whom had the bucks for it gladly did so.

Catching a bus downtown on NYE? Not for the lighthearted or easily annoyed.

@1 Well, with the exception of sun rays and space dust nothing is "free".
