@1,
Are you saying technology is to blame for hucksters? You're wrong. Every generation has its scams and victims of scams. Yours too. Don't play holier than thou. If you don't understand twitter and instagram scams, that's ok, you're old so you're forgiven for your ignorance, but don't pretend they're meaningless to everyone just because you don't understand the technology behind them.

A scam is a scam is a scam. Social media will confirm the exact information you want to be true.

Having watched the Netflix documentary, full of interviews with those who worked on the disaster with McFarland, one thing stands out. Millennials might be our most educated generation, but it's also a generation that seems to be lacking in street smarts (you know, gut-level savvy about human nature and how the world really works).

The individuals working with McFarland weren't getting paid regularly, put festival expenses on their personal credit cards without reimbursement, stuck with McFarland even as it started to become obvious his house of cards must ultimately collapse, and continued to enable him in his fraudulent activities to the very end. They seem more naive and gullible than those willing to put out thousands of dollars based on a social media post and a short video of super models frolicking in the Bahamas surf.

What was the reward they were hoping for that blinded them to what was really going on and their own culpability? Was in money or celebrity of their own by association?

My only sympathies lie with all the Bahamian workers who got stiffed by McFarland et al. As for the rest of them, staff and ticket holders alike - consider this a valuable life lesson. And the next time someone approaches you mongering a high-priced celebrity lifestyle experience, apply critical thinking and ask hard questions before blindly jumping aboard.
