Obviously it's the right thing to do. However, if we're treating these federal employees as state employees can we stop paying the domestic terrorists in DC for the services they do not provide?
i don't believe he has a chance with the presidential run (because of the "whuddamean there's a state called 'Washington'??" effect) but with solid humanity like this he really deserves it if he wants it.
Federal employees who receive unemployment benefits due to furlough are required to pay those benefits back to the state after their back-pay has been reinstated. I know from experience (the 2013 shutdown) that it is an onerous process, more onerous and time consuming than the initial application. In other words, only sign up if you really need it. And since we know that a bill has already been signed that provides for eventual back pay, folks with savings should feel fairly comfortable dipping into it.
Any insight on why the House Democrats blocked a bill that would continue the shutdown, but pay Federal Workers now? My assumption is they want Trump to cave, but idk.
Thank you, Lester Black, for reporting, and bless you, Governor Jay Inslee, for doing the very least we can do. Our beloved state will go down in history during this Err of Trump as the Sane, Humanitarian Washington.
@3: For the WIN. Kudos.
@6 and @8 are correct. I am a contractor for a federal agency currently idle due to the shutdown. Federal workers will get back pay when the shutdown ends and will need to repay unemployment benefits. But unemployment today will help pay their February rent/mortgage and other bills while waiting for the call to return to work. Governor Inslee is doing the right thing.

I think Jay Inslee should be able to amend any Presidential directive related to federal workers we are paying for the length of the shutdown.
