They believed the GOP wouldn't lie to them because they're REAL AMERICANS, i.e. white, always vote Republican, hate immigrants and minorities, practice cafeteria religion...'Cause that makes them 'exceptional'. God will protect them because their shit don't stink!

2

We're getting a little over $8K back! Trying decide between a European vacation or a new car.

And I voted for Hillary!

3

Who are the dummies that think your return has shit to do with fuck? Lack of imagination ain't it, lack of understanding is more like it.

Also if you really overpaid by 8K, what the fuck? That's just stupid too.

'I never thought leopards would eat MY face,' sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party.

Is there an EDITOR in the house? Here, Charles uses "return" when he means refund. A little up the page, Katie uses "state health insurance exchange" when she means a state regulated insurance provider.

In both cases, both conflated terms have legitimate - and distinct - meanings within the same subject area. This doesn't mean they are interchangeable.

@5 No, there is no editor in the house. Well, maybe there is a copy editor making minimum wage, so you get what you pay for.

This was a gop blunder. A lot of people are paying less tax this year but are going to see lower tax refunds than last year. The gop bill lowered the tax brackets which saves people money but scraps a bunch of exemptions/deductions. Payroll doesn’t know what exemptions/deductions your taking, but they do know what tax brackets people are in. So at the start of 2018 a lot of paychecks went up, but then at the end of the year people don’t have access to the exemptions they had before so get a smaller refund (sure the standard deduction doubled but personal/dependent exemptions where removed, so a family of 4 with a mortgage and state tax actually gets less deductions this year than last).

People don’t realize they may have paid a little less tax when its spread out over 12 months, all they see is the big difference in the lump sum at the end of the year (and yes a lot of people budget includes getting trhis lump sum)

10

Or to put it another way, there’s something about having one lump sum of $5000 vs 24 payments of $250. The 24 payments is 1k more yet because it’s spread out ppl are more likely to spend it each month rather than save it and have $6000 to spend at the end of the year.

Don't blame me, proud NRA card carrying MAGA non-vaxxers. I voted for Hillary in 2016. And I'll do it again. The sooner you blindsided idiots cop to your exercise in futility of voting for Trump or a third party (i.e.: Jill Stein, et al) the sooner the the People of the Divided States regain our democracy.

12

It is really, really disheartening to see how few people in this country understand how their own taxation works.

If you are complaining about a lower tax refund, you are a fucking idiot, and I am sorry for that, but at least it makes it easier to see why you need mommy government holding your money for you because you can't be trusted with it.

@5: Unfortunately since so many people are "educated" by reporters who do no research and are uneducated on the topics they discuss, this kind of basic ignorance of practical matters becomes endemic.

@11 "I voted for Hillary in 2016. And I'll do it again."

Jesus Christ, you're one dense dinosaur. This is really emblematic of your utter disdain for those of us who want a future where Trump is a one term president. Is having someone who looks like you in the White House that important to you that you'd actively seek to punish everyone else who doesn't follow your psychosis?

I'd point out that Kamla is a far superior candidate to Hillary but we all know why you'd prefer one over the other (hint: you can't just support any Democratic female candidate, they have to be white as well).

j2 - great points. i forgot how a lot of people have it. i’m one of those randos that has been forced to do estimates taxes on an unkown eatinated income with a wife working and withholding the max, so some years some comes back and some years im impressed with my total but i owe a 2 year oldTDI wagon in taxes. it’s crazy the rohrschack of politics, for the partisan, every piece of data supports their view and political paradigm. can we allow that maybe trump could do a good thing or two while predictably allowing the oligarchical 1% to continue to not pay their taxes and a runaway military industry to continue to waste resources with over and above hobbesian trap spending.
