The portal doesn't even work, giving me this error:

How is this horseshit even a legal way to hold an election? Who do we call to get this debacle turned into a normal election system, our state legislators?

Will they report the turnout afterwards? Who wants to set a betting line?

In case it's helpful, apparently the 45th Legislative District Democrats were the only legislative district to actually interview all of the candidates. They decided to endorse Kirsten Haugen.

King County residents attempting to use the King Conservation District's Supervisor #1 Election Ballot Request Portal on the morning if Friday, March 15, 2019, likely experienced issues with successfully completing their submission. Those voters were subsequently directed to submit their ballot request by email or phone.

This interruption was due to administration error on the part of Election Trust which resulted from a mis-configuration of the Election Trust Post Master account involving recent un-noticed changes to Microsoft’s email password management protocol.
Election Trust takes full responsibility for this service failure and sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience it caused voters.

Going forward, we do look forward to providing King Conservation District voters the election services and support they expect and deserve.

I am a climate candidate running in this race. Election officials assure me that even with the errors they are seeing the request submissions coming in. If your ballot does not arrive by next week, call directly to request a ballot. I am endorsed by the 5th District, local and state officials, and very involved on the ground in King County. www.electrachelmolloy.com

Conservation district elections should be on the regular ballot so everyone knows to vote. It shouldn't be a secret election. Only six people voted last year -- out of one million registered voters. In 2016 & 2017, they didn't even have an election because only the incumbent filed. The issues we saw today with the malfunctioning ballot request website further highlight this election should be handled by King County Elections.

State law actually allows for conservation districts to hold their own elections, without a requirement for public disclosure by candidates. To run for the board, you have to be a landowner or lease a farm – another aspect of the 1939 conservation district statute that badly needs modernization.

We need a strong King Conservation District board to push the legislature to change these archaic laws and put this election on a real ballot so voters can choose who runs it.

Does anyone know how to complete the 'Date of Birth' section? I've tried multiple configurations and receive the following error message each time: Please enter a valid Date of Birth.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are having issues with the "date of birth" field. You can also request your ballot by phone 1-866-429-9481 or email help@electiontrust.com

Mr. Black, did you know that it costs an entity (in this case the Conservation District is a Special Purpose District) nearly $3.50 per ballot to be listed on a general or special election? If you do the math, for a county-wide agency of over 2 million people that would cost millions of dollars! And as you stated in your article, KCD has an operating budget of just $7 million. Under the restrictions of current state voting law, the District is conducting the most fiscally responsible way of holding an election available.

In regards to calling more attention to the election process---the District has tried! An election for an agency that most people are either unfamiliar with or feel does not directly impact them, is a hard a sell to the media. (But they do have you to thank, I suppose, for taking up that charge.)

If your readers are interested in finding out about the work the District does to promote clean water, healthy forests and local food, they can sign up to receive KCD's monthly newsletter at http://kingcd.org/about/newsletters/ (you can also find archived editions at this URL).

How is it possible that the SLOG writes an article on the King Conservation District and not include any of the 6 candidates for the seat. It is the firs time, in a long time, that the election has had more than one person and a person of color in the race. Who is not paying attention at the Strager?
