Most authorities are calling it a terrorist attack...but Donald Trump isn't.

3

Right Wing Terrorism is a Plague on Humanity.

Thanks, Trumpfy.

Bela Fleck & Ruth Akello, awesome. Thx for that.
Should be remembered that the still-reigning Queen of the Mbira though, is Stella Chiweshe.
From Zimbabwe. (little shout-out to Charles there.)
Here is one short vid of her. (Sorry, no white guy to mediate on this one)-

@6: As a gun owner I am here to say: Fuck. You.
You colossal piece of shit.

9

@6: New Zealand has one of the lowest murder rates in the world in part BECAUSE of its strict gun control. And before you start whinging on with "What about Switzerland" They too have very strict laws pertaining to gun ownership.
So go ahead. Try to wiggle out from under the fact that this was a terrorist attack by a white supremacist that killed close to 50 innocent people, who were doing nothing more than worshipping their god, with your pathetic deflections.
You should be ashamed of yourself, but I doubt you’re capable.

10

Jackscrew problems were exactly brought down Alaska Flight 261 in 2000. That craft was a MD-80, similar to the 717 and 737.

12

@7 So being an ersatz "gun owner" confers WHAT on you exactly? Other than a high likelihood of killing yourself and/or family?

13

How about Howie Schultzy already pathologically lying like a trumpet:
"Today I said I spent more time with the military than any candidate running for president. That was wrong."
Wrong when it was pointed out to him that we was obviously lying.

14

@10 - I don't believe the Alaska crash (maintenance issue that led to the jackscrew assembly failing) is similar to the Boeing 737 crash (jackscrew found in odd position probably due to software issue caused by a faulty sensor).

15

New Zealand shooter called Donald Trump 'a symbol of white identity' as he (murdered 49 people).

Donald Trump is just like Charles Manson. He is inciting others to commit violence. Yesterday's threat about how he has the military, the police, and the bikers for Trump on his side should the left decide to "go to far" should be considered a crime against the people in this country, it should be treason and he should be removed from office.

He has encouraged, celebrated, refused to condemn, and praised white supremacist hatred and acts of terrorism and he needs to be stopped. Enough bullshit. We don't need a wall. We need an execution.

17

@6, the Kiwi gun laws are about as lax as they are here (except that you can't buy more than one assault rifle at a time). Their much lower gun homicide rate isn't due to lack of weapons.

@10, the MD-80 is the 717, or vice versa. It was re-badged after Boeing merged with Mad Dog.

18

Not seeing this getting much coverage anywhere, but rainfall and a dam collapse is causing historic flooding in Nebraska, whole towns are underwater, and the national guard has been mobilized.

@11 & 12 I keep my guns unloaded and locked in a safe. I whole heartedly support back ground checks, mandatory licensing and safety classes, as well as mandatory liability insurance. I believe that open carry is for douche bags, and that if your child accidently (or otherwise) shoots themselves or someone else because you allowed them access to a fire arm that you as a parent should be held liable up to and including criminal prosecution. Because hey! If someone sitting out in the parking lot can be charged with murder if their buddy kills someone in the 7-11 then so should said parent if their kid shoots up a school.
I mention that I am a gun owner every time cock wobbles like wouldn’tknowafacttosupporthispointifitibithimintheass tries their bullshit to forestall their inevitable accusations that I, as a liberal, don’t know what I’m talking about.
K? You two happy now?

20

@17: Really.
All gun-owners must have a licence, but most individual weapons don't have to be registered. New Zealand is one of the few countries where this is the case.

In order to own a gun legally, applicants for a firearm licence must pass a background check of criminal and medical records. Factors like mental health, addiction and domestic violence should be considered.
Looks like their tighter to me.

21

OK, so I'm approximately 18 zillion percent certain he's addressed this in one of the 18 zillion times we've had these pointless conversations over the years. But I need a refresher. Can fax let us know why Australia, with it's strict regulation, restriction and enforcement, has such a low mass murder rate. I know he's always telling us that "grievance killers" will invariably find some other horrific method by which to induce carnage, but in looking at this list, it kinda seems like they've not been terribly successful in so doing. Christ, I had to scroll back to 2011 before I found someone aggrieved enough to tally double digits.

22

@16: God you are a vile and pernicious fool. How do you square that with the fact that New Zealand is, second to Iceland, the most peaceful country on the planet according to the Institute for Economics and Peace? Oh and here is a break down from GunPolicy.org of gun deaths in New Zealand from 1988 to 2015. They haven’t broken 100 deaths by gun violence IN A YEAR since 1992.
https://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/new-zealand
I'd tell you to stop trying to mitigate the this incident with your hand waving but we've already established what kind of person you are.

23

@19: None of that matters. You are a gun owner, and therefore just as guilty as the shooter.

Sorry, those are the rules. Did you think you were immune because you are one of the "good ones?"

24

@17 "the Kiwi gun laws are about as lax as they are here"

Complete bullshit. Firearms licensing is mandatory and requirements are much stricter.

"Their much lower gun homicide rate isn't due to lack of weapons."

Firearms ownership rates in NZ is 26.5 per 100,000 people.

In the US the ownership rate is 120.5 per 100,000.

Anymore nonsense you want to pull form your ass?

26

@23: Oh my fucking God Theodore, spare us your stupid strawman and your bad faith pot stirring.

27

@26: Hey, I didn't make the rules.

Truth is kid...the game was rigged from the start.

28

@27: LOL Rules? Tell me, when stirring shit, do you prefer a wooden spoon for a better grip, or a metal one for easier clean up?

29

@18: Definitely news to me. Thanks for that.

@23: Literally no one says that, other than the ones saying it to fabricate a straw man. (If I'm wrong, please provide me a URL so that I can be proven so.)

30

@27: Oh and your efforts to help steer the conversation from the pertinent event (to remind you: a terrorist attack perpetrated by a white racist islamaphobe) are duly noted.

31

@3
Totally.
Especially since victims of Right Wing terrorist attacks are so much more dead than victims of Left Wing terror.

33

32
But those folks have the misfortune of being killed by a person of colour;
hence their deaths (and lives) don't even ever register with the Leftist Victimization Industrial Complex.
These folks in NZ, however, hit Victimhood GOLD;
killed by a white guy, en mass, with a gun;
holy crap they are Blessed Saints in the Cult of Leftist Victimhood.

34

^^^ You’re having conversations without switching sock puppet accounts again.

35

@31-33: Honestly I don't know why you bother. Just cut and paste from the enormous back log of shitty comments you’ve made under any one of your plethora of former log ins, and save us all the time. You haven’t said anything original, let alone of value, since some time in 2009, and that's being generous.

36

Gun nuts can’t make up thier minds. According to the gun nuts in the US mass shootings are these rare outliers that have nothing to do with guns but if they happen literally anywhere else with normally low gun homicide rates ther’re magically indicative of a need for more guns or a corrupt liberal society. Astonishing!

38

Lissa, I suggest chamomile tea or a glass of chardonnay.

39

@38: Thank you raindrop, but I am whiskey or merlot kind of gal. :)

41

@40 you are entirely misreading her comments.

42

@24Prof, ownership is more like 1 in 4. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-47584603

And this guy was able to stanch the drool long enough to score a Class A license, so he could buy anything on offer.

44

@40: Lol, ok. While your premise (Humans own guns simply to kill other humans) is an obvious exaggeration, (I mean let’s not forget farmers, hunters, Olympians, people who live or work in the wilderness etc.) I don't disagree with you that most of us (gun owners), even if we don't want to admit it, like owning something dangerous, to potentially BE dangerous, even if all we ever actually do is plink away at pieces of paper with our 22 at the range.
I own guns for the same reason most people in this country do: because I can. Not because I think that at any moment I will be called to defend myself from a tyrannical government, not because I live in fear of being attacked in the produce aisle of the QFC, not because I hunt, but because I like them.
I don’t apologize for that, but I’m not going to tell that you have to like it, or tell you that the 2nd Amendment trumps the legit problem we have with gun violence in this country. People in other countries all over the world, including New Zealand, manage to have private gun ownership without the whole sale slaughter we see here in the US, and by and large they achieve that by having strict legislation.
And I am all for that.

45

@43: Oh yeah! We keep our ammunition locked up too. Thank you for bringing that up.

46

@43: And thank you for your kind words as well. :)

48

Soooo, it was a Cheet-o Tweet-o veto?

@1: No doubt he thinks Brenton Tarrant is actually a "very nice person".

@28:

I'm pretty sure he just rolls up his sleeve and sticks his bare arm in up to the elbow - probably licks it after he's done as well.

49

Well, I find it absolutely (not) shocking that a Libertarian think talk would report such results.

Here's a blurb from the ostensibly more objective and unbiased factcheck.org article on the topic that speaks to the measure's effectiveness, "...a 2006 analysis by scholars at the University of Sydney concluded that gun fatalities decreased more quickly after the gun law passed. “Australia’s 1996 gun law reforms were followed by more than a decade free of fatal mass shootings, and accelerated declines in firearm deaths, particularly suicides,” the authors of that study wrote."

It's worth noting also that this continued (if not accelerated, as reported) decline happens to coincide with what's reported as the most rapid acceleration in the countries population in history.

https://www.factcheck.org/2017/10/gun-control-australia-updated/

I mean, I'll even concede that it's an isolated case that may or may not ultimately prove to be significant. But you shitheads that think you're gonna solve this problem by curing mental illness are freaking delusional. A multi-faceted approach with significant control measures is absolutely necessary and obvious to anyone actually dedicated to the cause.

50

Te arguments against gun control include the following: a belief that an individual, or even a group of persons, armedheavily, could defeat the US armed forces in open combat; the idea that people who can afford to buy food at a grocery store might need to use a rocket propelled grenade to hunt squirrels; and a deeply rooted fear of Black and Brown people.

To address the first idea: Randy Weaver proved you wrong. It doesn’t matter how much you stockpile arms. You wont last ten seconds in pitched battle against the Marine Corps. If it’s the ATF and FBI, well, Koresh lasted a week. Don’t count on living much longer than that, though.

To the second point, come on, unless you live in the Alaskan bush or Appalachia, you don’t need to hunt to survive. And even if you are totally off the grid and hiding out from the feds in some Olympic Mountain hideout (in which case, why do you even care what the law says about anything), if you tried to hunt squirrel with an AR-15, you probably wouldn’t have any squirrel meat left after the bullet hit it. A tuft of fur, maybe.

And as for the last bit, why don’t you just go back to Europe and leave the rest of us alone, then? This is th perfect time to relocate to the U.K. and rediscover your roots-right before the economic collapse created by a xenophobic and racist campaign led by Nigel Farage, a guy who’s so inbred his family tree looks more like a telephone pole. Want real racial purity? Why not marry your sister, then, so there’s no need to worry about possible Black ancestry? Fuck it, you could just marry good old Mom and be completely safe about it. It’s not like it’d be the first time you slid up and down that hole, eh? Just like old times.

No, we don't need any More executions.
We need FEWER.
