The people who moved here for shiny new jobs have places to live, plenty of them. The people who have lived here all their lives are being tossed out. Get your head out.

2

I grew up in Vancouver, WA and never in a million years will I live there again. White supremacy, measles, kids who set half of the state of Oregon on fire, girls pushing friends off bridges, and a missionary that trespasses onto an island with an uncontacted tribe on it, no thanks!

4

Could someone please explain Beto O Rourke phenomena to me?
As far as I know he is a Texan who lost a Senate race to Ted Cruz.
OK, what else?
Has he authored any major studies or crafted some landmark legislation or starred in a blockbuster series of action movies? Is he an SNL alumni?
Why the fuck are we all supposed to care about this guy all of a sudden?

8

Wow, the 'Couv has become the USA official libertarian "Lord of the Flies" experiment.

9

To be fair and balanced, I had the finest elk cutlet Sashimi ever while camping near the 'Couv. With a former Special Forces Vietnam Vet. To fend off the 8th graders.

10

@5- I think you'll find that the left has been pretty much shot, beaten, stabbed and dragged behind cars for saying and doing things the right doesn't like.

I think an Australian bigot can probably endure an egg if we can endure the Freedom Summer murders of Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner (as just one example of many).

11

@4: Youngish, attractive people in politics always get way too much attention despite a lack of real accomplishment.

We all watched Alexandria Cortez get the spotlight over several other women in the historic 2018 midterms who have achieved much more, but no on cares about them since they are not seen as fuckable like Cortez is.

Human nature always favors the young and attractive.

13

Timothy I highly recommend this sunrise alarm clock. It's done absolute wonders for me.

@5 You Alt-Righties are such fragile broflake pussies.

A teenager, who isn't even 130lds soaking wet, throws an egg and you pussies all squeal "ASSAULT! OH NOES! MUH LIFE IS IN DANGER"

But a bunch of racist goons show up to town hall meetings or wild life refuges all camo'd-up with semi-automatic rifles, and you're all like "LUK AT DEES HEROS!"

Here is how you handle the terror of an egg:

Historic flooding has been going on for several days in the Midwest; Don't expect corporate media to bring up climate change even though data and analyses show that increased precipitation and flooding are part of the signature of climate change in the Midwest:

Extreme rainfall events and flooding have increased during the last century, and these trends are expected to continue, causing erosion, declining water quality, and negative impacts on transportation, agriculture, human health, and infrastructure.

16

@4 Trudeau/Macron 2.0: pretty rhetoric, business as usual

17

Notice how @11 seeks to diminish AOC by going Matt Gaetz on her. You can see how he's obsessed with her the way all the RWNJ snowflakes are by bringing her up in the first place, and he deliberately botches her name.

Does that make him more or less fucked up than @5 there?

19

@11 AOC gets a lot of press because of the extremely popular policies she advocates. Beto gets lots of press because he is the best hope of neoliberals to continue business as usual (like Beto advocating to increase retirement/SS age in his first run for congress)

20

@18 really?

Beto Versus The Barrio

The rock-star Democrat Beto O’Rourke, a candidate for president, once supported the bulldozing of a low-income neighborhood in his hometown of El Paso—a project spearheaded by his father-in-law.

https://prospect.org/article/beto-versus-barrio

22

@19,

Agreed. I'd not argue that young, attractive folks in politics do get an inordinate amount of attention, simply because they're so rare. But AOC is getting attention in a nature quite similar to that of Bernie Sanders, who's considerably less fuckable.

23

@19: So why is it that all of the older women whose names you have never heard who also advocate for those policies, and have actually gotten some passed, never get any media attention?

I'll wait while you Google them so you can formulate a response.

I am not denigrating anyone here, but if you want to argue that media cameras and people's attention spans are not drawn to younger, more attractive people over older and more accomplished people, then I have numerous bridges for sale you may be interested in.

But in the meantime I offer exhibit A: The entire music industry.

24

Most people view AOC unfavorably, but I don't think that AOC and Beto are comparable in this instance. AOC has some pretty far-fetched ideas that illicit a reaction from both sides so the news likes to cover her because they get more clicks.

I really dont understand the appeal towards Beto. He seems like a likable guy, but I don't think he has any strong policy views.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/247820/rep-ocasio-cortez-better-known-image-skews-negative.aspx

25

Regardless of the politics or dispositions of those involved, a projectile is an assault whether it is a bullet, rock, shoe, egg, tomato, or pie and has no place in a civil society.

26

@23 what women in congress would those be? You know. That are socialists. List them.

28

"Most people view AOC unfavorably"

Ah. This bullshit again.

First. That gallup poll was bullshit.

Yes, when you subtract women, voters between 18-34, and people of color - you magically can cherry pick "most people" (Or if you INCLUDE republicans).

Second. Even if it was true — which it's not — it doesn't matter. She's not running for President. She wasn't elected to represent this mythical "most people." She was elected to represent HER district.

And her district LOVES her.

Her GND has STRONG bipartisan support:

http://climatecommunication.yale.edu/publications/the-green-new-deal-has-strong-bipartisan-support/

29

@26: That is a very odd direction to move those goalposts, you practically have them off the field at this point!

31

@29,

How is that moving goalposts? He suggested that she's popular largely because she's a self-identified socialist advocating for socialist policies and not because she's young and attractive as you claim. It reads to me as a pretty direct refutation of your point.

32

It's cute how Teddy doesn't name any of these women he references as more qualified than Just Not That Woman in his first comment. Handy of him to say later he's not going to do something nobody asked him to because nobody took him seriously in the first place.

Not surprised David in Shoreline is very concerned with how the leftists treat nazis. I wonder why that's so triggering for him?

Raindrop, what is you doing girl. Bad look. Very bad look. Especially after what that politician's thugs did to the kid afterward.

33

Wow, you failed to mention Beto's deranged teenage writings; this is school shooter shit (and yes, this is real, and he's admitted to it but waved it off as being a dumb teen):

“Then one day, as I was driving home from work, I noticed two children crossing the street. They were happy, happy to be free from their troubles. I knew, however, that this happiness and sense of freedom were much too overwhelming for them.

This happiness was mine by right. I had earned it in my dreams. As I neared the young ones, I put all my weight on my right foot, keeping the accelerator pedal on the floor until I heard the crashing of the two children on the hood, and then the sharp cry of pain from one of the two. I was so fascinated for a moment, that when after I had stopped my vehicle, I just sat in a daze, sweet visions filling my head.

My dream was abruptly ended when I heard a loud banging on the front window. It was an old man, who was using his cane to awaken me. He might have been a witness to my act of love. I was not sure, nor did I care. It was simply ecstasy. As I drove home, I envisioned myself committing more of these 'acts of love,' and after a while, I had no trouble carrying them out. The more people I killed, the longer my dreams were. ... I had killed nearly 38 people by the time of my twenty-third birthday, and each one was more fulfilling than the last.”

34

@30: Be that as it may, words are still a better venue than assaults (from whipped cream to steel). Let's follow the wisdom of Michelle Obama.

35

@32: The fact that the thugs turned on the teenager only proves my point. Assaults have consequences. Now there are two guilty parties. The politics of the matter are tangential to their crimes.

As long as one is civl - maintaining a good look is only about being properly groomed and tailored.

36

@29 No. Sorry dips hit. You said this:

"So why is it that all of the older women whose names you have never heard who also advocate for those policies, and have actually gotten some passed, never get any media attention?"

That is a direct quote. Name those older women. List them all. That advocate for socialist policies or came up with he GND before OAC. Because those are the polities AOC advocates for.

Go on. List them.

37

@31: I was talking about accomplishments, and being a socialist is not an accomplishment.

We have not lowered the bar that much, yet.

38

@35 this is the sort of cowardly justifications for disproportional violence every victim-complex thug says. Chicken shit nonsense.

40

@30,

Holy shit, that was pretty freaking awesome, had somehow never heard of the incident. Thanks! For anyone else unaware....

41

@5 He's a left-leaning Centrist who supports a number of very liberal Ideals, at least in his speaches, while having a very pro-business, Centrist, political record. He's charming, handsome, sounds good in a speech, and looked like a gift from God when he took on Ted Cruz. All of which allowed him to co-opt a number of Bernie's campaign strategies, and build a national organization to take on Cruz. After losing to Cruz, that national organization looked good to Establishment Democrats looking for a Centrist who can defeat the Progressives in the primary, and make sure the Centrists maintain control of the Democratic Party. Hence the guy who can't beat pond-scum like Cruz becomes the Golden Boy of the Clinton Wing.

42

@40: That was rich. "At least it was a fruit pie", oh Anita!

43

@36: Damn guy, wipe the froth off your mouth and calm down before you start smashing your fists on the keyboard again.

I have no idea why you guys are suddenly injecting the weird need to be a socialist in order to accomplish things legislatively, but it is extremely bizarre.

Two newly elected lawmakers I can think off of the top of my head who campaigned on environmental issues/accomplishments are Rashida Tlaib and Veronica Escobar. Gretchen Whitmer won a governorship campaigning off of 100% renewable energy goals. While not winning an election, Eddie Johnson is now the chair of the House Science Committee, and she has vowed to make renewables and climate change a top priority.

So those are four off the top of my head as I head out from work. If you made some effort, you could easily read about many others and their accomplishments.

But something tells me you won't. To each their own.

45

@42,

Haha, I got a kick outta that too. Credit where due, bigoted ol' Christian homophobic lady.

46

I could swear the struggle against racist fascists was litigated back in the '40s. If racist fascists want to show their faces in public again, especially in this country, they'll be beaten down again. And no amount of whataboutism from the cry-baby far-right will change anyone's mind.

47

@43 You keep derailing and whining but you still haven't listed a single older congress women" with the same policy goals— and you've been purposely vague on what you even thought those were — as AOC.

Because you can't.

Once again talking out of your ass.

48

McGovern, 2020!

50

Oops. I see you made an attempt after what was clearly a hasty insufficient Google search. I usually don't read your posts because of your usual level of stupidity.

So. Rashida Tlaib, also a Democratic Socialists of America, was also elected in 2019. She hasn't been sitting around in congress languishing in media obscurity. She, Veronica Escobar, and AOC are often mentioned together because they are ALL part of the 116th Congress revolution.

Tlaaib and Escobar get lots of media attention. But they are not as vocal about these new controversial policy ideas like the GND.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez get's attention because she comes out in front with new ideas and has a very save social media presence that the others do not have.

Besides. It's rightwing dumbshits like you that seem obsessed with these women's "fuckablity."

51

Hi Canada,

Can we trade Vancouvers? We'll throw in Blaine, the Mariners and ten thousand copies of Howard Schultz's book to sweeten the deal.

Thanks, Washington

52

@49 And let us not forget Pete Townshend hitting Abbie Hoffman over the head with his guitar. "It's my stage bitch". LOL

53

Congratulations to the Zags.
You know who else is sending a bunch to the Dance?
Dixie.
The old ACC got the other three #1 seeds (first time a Conference has snagged three...)

54

Ah, all the dickless leftists relishing Violence for the Cause!
Punching!
Slapping!!
Hair Pulling!!!
Pie!!!
forgive us if we don't miss you, after you turn on each other.
we doubt there will be much left to mop up.

56

@41-Thanks for thoughtful reply. I still don't understand the saturation coverage though.
And Ted, I really don't see an equivalence between AOC and Beto.
First, she is now serving in Congress and so she inherently is a person of power.
Second, she represents a constituency that is not only under-represented, but undercounted as well, so of course her voice will be amplified.
And she is good-looking, of course, but that is just one element to having a charismatic personality.
Also, she does have a crafted policy position in the Green New Deal, which, like it or not marks her as not only a responsible adult but the voice of a movement.
Now what does Beto bring, other than an anodyne cis-gendered white male enthusiasm?
Not that that's nothing, but c'mon...

57

@50: Try reading and doing a little research before you get pissed off at nothing and start punching the keyboard. It will minimize these incidents where you look really ignorant, and have to admit you were full of shit.

A little self-awareness goes a long way.

58

@57 YOU'RE saying this? The guy who has routinely made bullshit up out of thin air - like the ST3 vote nonsense? And then runs away like little boob? Hahahaha. Okay.

59

Oh. I just caught this nugget:
"a projectile is an assault whether it is a bullet, rock, shoe, egg, tomato, or pie"

Right. A BULLET is JUST like an egg or tomato. Sigh.

BTW the one of your hero's that valiantly tackled and choked the scrawny teenaged eggboy?
Yeah. His name is Neil Luke Erikson, he's known white-supremacist with a criminal record and an outstanding warrant. What did this brave defender get in trouble with law over? He attacked a church congregation with a sword.
