I lived in Romania in the early 2000’s. I encountered these little tin kiosks at street corners, no larger than a newspaper stand, that were completely stocked with liquor. Vodka was sold for a dollar a liter. There’s no legal drinking age in Romania, and it’s considered perfectly acceptable to send a little kid to buy booze at o;e of these things for mom and dad if they’re busy.

So yeah, they drink a lot in Romania.

They make great beer, too. Try this brand called Silva sometime. The dark Bock is especially good.
