Whoa. Seattle musician Parisalexa is one of several songwriters who will be part of NBC's latest reality show/music competition series, Songland, the trailer for which dropped today. It's a spinoff of The Voice and Adam Levine will be hosting the show.
E! News reports that Songland will give viewers an "inside look at the songwriting process." Apparently, there was some backlash when the original contracts stated that the contestants would be signing away all the rights to their songs—thankfully, the producers wisened up and changed it. There will be one winner per episode, with the prize being that their song will be recorded by one of the guest artists featured on that episode who include: the Jonas Brothers (!), John Legend (!!!!), will.i.am, OneRepublic, Kelsea Ballerini, Macklemore, Leona Lewis, Aloe Blacc, and Old Dominion.
OK, so maybe Parisalexa won't be hanging out with all those musicians at once, but a girl can dream! Looking over the list of guests, Leona Lewis obviously jumps out as someone I'd like to hear sing a Parisalexa original. But wouldn't it also be kind of fun to hear OneRepublic throw something down on a "Water Me" adjacent track? See how the Jonai can make something like "Ballin'" into, like, a sugar pop ballad? Aloe Blacc retro-fying "Hot Head"? Dramatic tension!
Anyways, the show premieres on Tuesday, May 28th. We'll be tuning in—good luck Parisalexa!
