I'm sure you are being facetious about steelhead, but they are definitely not salmon. I like my little rainbow trout dudes, even when they decide to smolt.

2

I'd never seen that Nirvana video. Was awesome, gave me chills at one point. Loved @ 1:20 when Dave when up and kicked at Kurt's guitar so they could rock some. Thanks, Timothy!

My pal from London lamented recently that while the US & UK made exceedingly bad choices in 2016 election cycle, the UK's bad choice is much more dangerous, volatile, and PERMANENT.
Coming 2020: Island Empire for sale!

4

Rainbow trout and Pacific northwest salmon are both in the genus Oncorhynchus, so they are related.
East coast salmon are classified differently, so they are obviously inferior!

@3
Don't worry -
Trump and McConnell are far from finished damaging our democracy here in the U S!

Last time CO2 levels were this high, there were trees at the South Pole

Trees growing near the South Pole, sea levels 20 metres higher than now, and global temperatures 3C-4C warmer. That is the world scientists are uncovering as they look back in time to when the planet last had as much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as it does today.

Steelies are definitely trout.

On that note, someone needs to just invade Britain and put the old girl out of her misery. It's just cruel at this point, and it is making everyone sad.

8

Happy for the westward traveling wolfpack, though I gotta figure it's only a matter of time till they encroach on some ranchers land and/or kill some livestock and wind up with a bounty on their heads.

9

I get the doom & gloom about atmospheric CO2, I get the doom & gloom about Trump, I get the doom & gloom about Pacific Northwest salmon, but...
I don't get all the doom & gloom around this putative 'Brexit'.
We hear today that GB is going to take part in EU elections, so any of these 'deadlines' have just been shifted farther off into the future.
Both GB and the EU seem to have motivation to stall and drag it out and litigate and negotiate until doomsday...and when doomsday comes they will all vote another extension, lather rinse repeat...

10

@9: That's a wise disposition. It's been my life experience that while we should be concerned about the maladies that harm our world, generally overall at no time in our history are things better than they are now.

11

Killing those sea lions is pretty screwed up.

12

Safe injection sites address harm reduction, I guess. But how would an addict be receptive to addressing his or her addition at these sites either before injection (when they're very distressed and sick) or after (when they're very high (and still very sick)? I assume there would be pamphlets to give out.

13

@12: Just to be frank, that is not even close to how addiction works.

It is not a logical choice that just needs to be addressed when someone is in the right state of mind. No one can debate an addict out of an addiction.

Basically every addict has had people reach out to them repeatedly, over and over to try to help them. But they can only help themselves, and only when they are ready to. They are never "not sick."

Horses and water, you know?

14

@13 - True. Then the argument that these sites address addiction by counseling appears to be no better than any other outreach program.

So the pluses are essentially only about harm reduction. That could be enough to change some minds in a sea of worries I guess.

15

@12 Go to one and find out. I am sure the staff would be happy to show you around, just be polite and open minded.

16

@15: Interesting, I have a Vancouver friend who was thinking of doing just that. He just keeps putting it off making the trip because, well, it's really awful around there.

17

@16 Be brave little raindrop you can do it. Then you can tell your chicken shit friend all about it. Wear a cheep off the rack suit everyone will just think you are a social worker and leave you alone.

Teresa May is asking the EU for an extension until June 30th, a request that they had already unanimously rejected when she asked just a couple of weeks ago, because they felt she was setting them up to be blamed for her failure to get her Brexit agreement approved by UK Parliament! It's like she's trying to exasperate the EU so much that they will just vote to throw Britain out without a deal and get blame for the catastrophic mess that will follow from this. I'm thinking the Tories are just as self serving as corrupt as the GOP. Should have known when she sucked up to Trump!

@15 Hell, just do a google street tour of Hasting Street. It's the fucking Walking Dead for 4 blocks in every direction. I've done that and walked through there. I wouldn't wish that shit-show on my worst enemies.

So yeah, good luck convincing folks in Belltown/Queen Anne/Ballard/U-District you want to turn their neighborhoods into zombie town.

21

Hastings Street in Vancouver also has a crack problem apparently:

"New wolf pack establishes itself west of the Cascades"

A possible breeding Pair, but that's all it takes, sometimes...
How long till they reach the Olympics?

If I owned property bordering the National Park, or Forest, I'd be expecting them one day, eventually. And I'd certainly have a nice large mutt and probably a smaller, not-overly-Nervous back-up / sidekick. While a wolverine'd be Nice, I hear they're fairly Hard to come by. And not easily domesticated...

Mother Nature's out there, she's Never going away;
we seem to be able to forget that, these days....

Hastings street has a crack problem too apparently:

24

@22- pretty hard to imagine the wolves getting through all the urbanization and into the Olympics without help. Great news to hear they are in the North Cascades though.

25

@24 -- Along with Griz.

Were they sporting bandanas alongside the North Cascades Highway, up by Lake Diablo, for instance, with a couple suitcases, half an elk, and a sign that just said 'Olmpics,' I'd be tempted to give them a lift, myself.

26

@22: When the price on the Coupeville to Port Townsend ferry comes down to where they can afford it.

27

@22 -- If they're under 6, they ride free.
