The Lorax is shedding a lot of tears today: Approximately 5,000 of them. One for every tree that Sound Transit has to remove for the Lynnwood light rail extension. That's okay, though! Light rail is exciting! And they're going to replace all the 5,000 soon-to-be-lumber trees with FOUR TIMES as many. Think of all the oxygen! Anyway, the Lynnwood extension is the last leg of the ST2 light rail extension that was approved 11 years ago. The construction process started Thursday.

UW is paving the way to 3-D printable organs: The University of Washington and Rice University are on track to helping solve the organ shortage issue. They've come up with new research that gets science closer to printing organs. The goal is to get to the point where printing a liver—the second most complicated organ behind the brain—is possible. So far, UW has bioprinted liver cells and Rice has gotten as far as printing an lung-like air sac. Progress!

A baby giraffe! At the Woodland Park Zoo! It's all happening, everyone. Do not panic, but a spindly-legged lil' fella plopped out of his mama today (a five-foot drop, mind you) at the Woodland Park Zoo. A baby giraffe was born! His parents are named Olivia and Dave. There's going to be a community contest to name the baby and I CANNOT WAIT. I'd like to throw Sebastian out there.

Kitsap gun story robbery: Police are looking for three people who stole nearly 100 guns from a gun store in Kitsap County on Monday.

Bike share is trying to get people to park their bikes better: It's tough out there among the Limes and the Jumps for people with disabilities. For instance, one blind woman interviewed by KOMO News faces bikes obstructing her path on the day-to-day. Bike share companies are trying to educate their riders on parking and Lime is considering offering free ride incentives for good parkers. The city is also dabbling with building bicycle parking spots.

I guess I'll need to shave my legs: Because it's summer weather, baby! And my legs are DRY and HAIRY. You don't need to know this but now you know this.

Pornhub could save Tumblr: Verizon is looking for a buyer to snatch up the blogging site. Recently, Verizon made sure to piss off Tumblr users everywhere by sanitizing the site of everything that made it good and worthwhile—the porn and NSFW content. Pornhub has stated it is "extremely interested" in buying the property. Yes! Restore it to its former glory!

The Russian beluga whale is trying to defect: Norwegian fishermen found the spy earlier this week. Now it won't leave them alone. In fact, this is the friendliest whale they've ever encountered and it seems to have no interest in swimming back to the Motherland. They're hoping that though it lived in captivity, the whale will be able to make it on its own.

An emoluments nightmare: Apparently, foreign governments have been renting out luxury condos from New York’s Trump World Tower. In 2017, Reuters found that at least seven governments took up residence there and that the U.S. State Department not only allowed it but didn't get approval from Congress. That could be a big ol' violation of the emoluments clause that "bans U.S. officials from accepting gifts or payments from foreign governments without congressional consent."

The U.S. Women's National Team roster was announced for the World Cup: Check out who's going to help us defend that world championship title.

A cruise ship in the Bahamas is being quarantined: There's a case of measles on board. The ship belongs to the Church of Scientology.

Facebook kicked controversial users off its platform: Well, seven of them. Big names too! Alex Jones, the conspiracy theorist and Info Wars founder, was removed as were other extremists. That's a big symbolic move for a company who's consistently wavered on banning provocateurs.
