U.S. acknowledges another migrant child died under government care: A 10-year-old girl from El Salvador died on September 29, 2018, a federal agency confirmed to CBS News. She reportedly had a history of congenital heart defects and was in a "medically fragile" state when she arrived at a facility in San Antonio, Texas in March of 2018. Her death is believed to be the first migrant child death in federal care since 2010. At least five other children, all from Guatemala, have died in U.S. custody (or shortly after) since this child's death. Her name has not yet been released.

Harriet Tubman isn't getting her $20 bill anytime soon: Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin (a man whose dad recently paid the highest price for a work of art by a living artist EVER—and JEFF KOONS of all artists, tacky!) appears to have no intentions of pursuing the $20 bill redesign. The redesign, which would feature abolitionist leader Harriet Tubman, was started under the Obama administration. Unsurprisingly, Mnuchin revealed today that the redesign will take place “way past my term." Instead, he's focusing on fighting counterfeit money. But we all know the only fake bill Trump cares about is Clinton.

It's gorgeous outside today: Go outside and pretend it's July because the real July is probably going to feel like hell.

A Puget Sound day. from r/Seattle

Actually, FUCK THE SUN, today is dedicated to darkness: It's #WorldGothDay, "a day where the goth scene gets to celebrate its own being, and an opportunity to make its presence known to the rest of the world." KEXP has had great programming for it:

(DJ Abbie and I both moved to Seattle from Minneapolis around the same time! She's the hardest working goth I know! You should follow her or send her hate mail if you hate me! She's the reason I'm in Seattle!)

The U.S. Congress appears to have bipartisan support to regulate the use of facial recognition: But Amazon's face and image ID service, Rekognition, is already being used by states like Florida and Oregon. The company has also appeared to pitch the software to ICE. Civil liberties groups aren't too pleased about all of that, according to Reuters, and two resolutions that would have limited Amazon's distribution of facial recognition software were placed on the ballot for Amazon's annual shareholder meeting, which happened today. An Amazon spokesperson announced that the resolutions failed by a wide margin. The use of facial recognition is expected to be an issue in Olympia when the Legislature is back in session next year.

More drama from Amazon's shareholder meeting:

Amazon shareholders didn't just vote down the facial recognition proposals, they voted down all 11 independent resolutions presented at today's annual meeting, reports GeekWire. Over 7,600 employees backed a climate change resolution that would have created a comprehensive plan to tackle climate change-related issues within the company. That was one of the 11 resolutions voted down. More from the day:

More quakes along the Washington and Oregon coasts: They're all tiny, from 0.2 to 3.8, says the Seattle Times. But some scientists believe these small tremors could trigger the megaquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, which could be as strong as 9.0. I have moderate- to sleeping-with-a-helmet-on-sized seismophobia and live in a brick building on top of a hill so these mini-quakes really make me contemplate death.

The house is my anxiety, the flood is today's earthquake news:

Do you know what is the most common hazard after an earthquake? FIRE! I'm crossing my fingers the big one doesn't happen in August.

NO COLLUSION, NO OBSTRUCTION: The World's Worst President™ stormed out of a meeting with Democratic congressional leaders Wednesday morning after Nancy Pelosi accused him of participating in a cover-up, the New York Times reports. He then stomped on over to the Rose Garden and shouted in front of a pre-printed sign that read "No Collusion, No Obstruction" and listed statistics related to the Mueller report. Pelosi responded to his outburst by telling reporters she is praying for the president and praying for the United States of America. Hopefully these are different prayers than the prayers for gun control.

The sign:

Since we're already talking about garbage: Recology, a waste management company that serves Seattle, has introduced the first electric 8 rear-loader in the United States. It will be servicing Seattle. I'm not completely sure what an 8 rear-loader is, although it does sound like something you could get at Club Z. I'm told it's a garbage truck. And it charges in 1.5 to 2.5 hours!

How did that get there? Zoom in.

Just kidding about yesterday's Headline of the Week: This is the Headline of the Week (until, probably, tomorrow): "Healthy dog euthanized to be buried with dead owner as her will requested"
