Hello, I'm Sorry, "No Hope (If Only)" (BIG BLDG)

Now in its sixth year, InScape Arts Bash is gaining momentum as one of the highlights of Seattle's festival season. Featuring over 30 bands performing on five stages, the event happens Saturday, June 1 at the International District building of the same name, located at 815 Seattle Blvd. S. (action runs from 3 pm to 1 am; all ages; tickets obtainable here). In addition to all that music, organizers Ben Schauland and Pete Jordan say that they "aim to saturate our event with stunning visuals, thrilling art installations, delicious food, beer, and cider from local businesses we love."

InScape's lineup includes headliners Kinski, Julia Shapiro (Chastity Belt, Childbirth), and Spesh, with support from some of the area's most interesting acts: Leash, High Pulp, Wild Powwers, Terror Cactus, Spider Ferns, Low Hums, Chris Cheveyo's Research, Qoqo Roboqs, Fabulous Downey Brothers, youryoungbody, and Hello, I'm Sorry.

I have to admit, I'd not checked out Hello, I'm Sorry till I clocked the bill for InScape, but better late than never. The handiwork of Seth Little, who records all of Hello, I'm Sorry's music (live they expand to a quartet), "No Hope (If Only)" is another of those paradoxical tunes that contrast pessimistic lyrics with music that catapults you to absurd heights. Here, Hello, I'm Sorry create an irrepressibly spring-jointed rhythm and chugging guitars that make you feel you're on a bullet train to boogie heaven. This is power-pop with shaggy swagger and a too-brief cacophony burst of guitar that'll please fans of Sonic Youth's Sister. You can find the track on Hello, I'm Sorry's Meloncandy album.
