"I confess that I was not aware of their presence on the block. They must study hard and walk to the nearby university"

Clearly rented with some of that scary "Dark Money" the Stranger is always conspiracy-blogging about.

2

Strange, most of those students bike or take transit to the university. Although, in the summer, they tend to walk more often.

3

I took me half of this article to realize this was sarcastic. Because people actually believe this shit.
Sorry, sorry, not people. Rich fucking assholes who only care about their manicured lawns.

4

But somebody might park their car... ON THE STREET! If one of my Thanksgiving guests has to slog an extra 20 feet because a ~renter~ (ugh!) has stolen one of the parking spaces that is obviously mine, that would be a tragedy. I might be forced to move to the suburbs where people actually value Neighborhood Character.

Had we held an initiative in 2010 inviting the entire city of Bellevue (population 122k in 2010) to move into Seattle over the next 8 years, I wonder how popular it might have been. Yet, that's exactly the population growth the city of Seattle has allowed between 2010 and 2018 (source: OFM) all while the roadway infrastructure stays pretty much the same. Let's invite Everett to move in over the next decade, I'm sure we can easily acccomdate them as well. /s

@6: And The Stranger will keep pounding out the propaganda for ADUs, which can house the smallest number of persons at the largest impact to traffic. No call for upzoning around light-rail stations, no advocacy of developing all those empty parcels along the existing light-rail line along MLK. Nope. There’s only one way, and it just so happens to advance their ideology of opposing single-family houses.

Since they can’t make that point rationally, we get this sneering, sarcastic post, loudly labeling anyone who dares disagree as an elitist snob. Note that our homeless policy has failed? Disagree with the EHT? You must be licking Bezos’ Balls! Want filthy, crime-ridden, disease-prone camps swept? You hate the homeless!!

If posts like this are how The Stranger responds to victory, imagine what defeat will goad them to write.

Tensor dear, when was the last time you went along MLK? When it was still called Empire Way? I know that the valley frightens you, but if you lock all your doors, roll up your windows, and drive very fast in the daytime, you'll be fine. And you'll see that there's not many empty parcels along that street.

way too funny and spot on!!! you all in the pacific northwest are a hoot.
from sunny Boulder, I salute your forward and fun thinking, after all, life should be joyful. kind regards, ml Robles ADU advocate and architect specializing in ADUs.

@6- The people who live in Bellevue may be more objectionable than those who have recently arrived in Seattle from other places. Just sayin'.

@8: It’s part of my daily commute. Also frequent trips to the airport. You?

And the number of vacant lots within sight of the light-rail line is easily in the dozens. There are also many parking lots and condemned buildings within easy reach of the line. There are quite a few of each along the light-rail line itself. You’d know this if you’d been there recently.

(I know it’s part of your shtick to claim your opponent wallows in terrified ignorance of city life, but really dear, why would someone frightened of a place advocate we build housing there? Is that how Percocet works?)

This Wallingford resident and HALA supporter is waiting for the inspector to sign off on her newly finished AU, which she is planning to rent at slightly under market to a (SHOCK!) voucher holder. The HORROR!

Thanks for giving me something great to read while I wait! :-)

Note that you didn't have to wait for O'Brien's bill, to get your ADU. The joys of ADU operation have been available to homeowners for many years. O'Brien's bill is not for the benefit of homeowners.

@15 Except now the lot size requirement is less and my renter doesn't have to have off-street parking among other things. Plus it's believed more than 4000 homes won't be torn down with this.

The objective specifically calls out homeowners. Sure, it's not just for homeowners but hey, I pay taxes so kids can go to school even though I don't have any and for stadiums I keep voting against.
