Walking home at night after seeing Midsommar felt perfectly safe. Nothing in the shadows seemed menacing because nearly everything terrifying in director Ari Aster's latest waking nightmare happens in broad daylight. Midsommar is a horror film that I never wanted to leave and immediately wanted to watch again so, on the long walk, I stumbled over what music could possibly keep me in a post-viewing state of contemplative revulsion. "CRISIS!" I texted Mercury Copy Chief Robert Ham, "What the HELL do I listen to after a movie like Midsommar?"

An obvious answer would be the Midsommar soundtrack by Haxan Cloak, which is already out and available for all your sunny day feeling of impending doom. But, as it turned out, Bob is a veritable wellspring of neo-pagan folk song recommendations. Senior Editor Ned Lannamann also had some Swedish progg contributions to offer. And after I added a couple experimental electro witch picks, we'd compiled a fairly robust playlist for anyone trying to come down from the complex emotions Midsommar brings on. Skål!
