Hm. Not a good look for Uncle Ike, but i guess he's used to that sort of thing, huh.

2

"We have every legal right to tax them."

No, not really.

I am surprised to hear of "Uncle Ike" Ian Eisenberg's support of Ari Hoffman... as objectionable of a candidate as has ever run in Seattle, IMO. It casts his businesses in a whole new light for me.

I don't mind a little healthy entrepreneurship to go along with my socialism, but if it comes with a side of "Fuck-you-give-me-money", then I am out...

Then again, I did see an Egan Orion poster in the Uncle Ike's window on 15th this past week, so I guess that should have been an earlier tip-off.

@2 doesn't know basic civics.

@5: There's nothing in the Bill of Rights or the Constitution that gives anyone the "right" to tax. Legislators and voters come together to form tax policy. But there's no inherent "right".

7

@6 I just love how Raindrop quotes a Constitution he has neither read nor understood. Hate to tell you this, but the Constitution explicitly allows the various states the power to tax business within their state.

@6, @7

Specifically:

United States Constitution, Article 1, Section 8. Clause 1: "The Congress shall have Power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States;"

Constitution of the State of Washington, Article 7, Section 1: "The power of taxation shall never be suspended, surrendered or contracted away. All taxes shall be uniform upon the same class of property within the territorial limits of the authority levying the tax and shall be levied and collected for public purposes only. The word "property" as used herein shall mean and include everything, whether tangible or intangible, subject to ownership"

I stand corrected on the constitution and am humbly appreciative.
