Looks like sand just blocks the filter. Same with sugar, apparently - it doesn’t dissolve in gasoline.

You don’t get to go hang out with the motorcycles up front?

2

Oh please Katie. You're abusing your staff position to extrapolate personal peeves into silly venting. Get back to work!

3

Yeah. People don't give a fuck. Best to adjust plans accordingly... or just be angry alot. It's a choice. Good luck!

4

Yeah, well. How about you take care of you and I'll take care of me? Some of us older folks have to sit in a ferry line long enough to get cold and have to run the engine to stay warm. Some of us can't afford a new car battery that will enable us to use our electronics to work in the car while waiting for the ferry, yet need to get work done during the commute. But all of us are adults; able to make our own decisions, workarounds, and compromises. My wife and I understand the issues at hand, we read the signs, we evaluate them and decide what to do. You're in charge of your decisions as well. But not ours.

5

Tim Eyman will just give everyone an office chair to roll onto the ferry.

6

you could walk up to their cars and ask them to stop idling. but it wouldn't do much good, @4s are legion.

still, it's unlikely they'd shoot you. I mean, it's WA, so they probably have their gun already cocked when you tap on their window, but they'd just brandish it before pulling the trigger and you can run at that point.

guns don't need recharging!

7

@4 - It's July, FFS. Maybe your argument hods (a little) water in the winter. And are you telling me there's no battery in your laptop? We could all "evaluate the signs" and decide to do a lot of shitty things. But maybe better not to.

8

@4 "I don't give a shit about you or the planet I'm going to do whatever the fuck I want."

9

Banana in the tailpipe.

13

@2 Airing of pet peeves and silly venting was exactly what blogs were invented for.

16

Seattle cyclists are the whiniest group of bitches in the city.

17

@10: And your hostile retort is interesting because...?

18

@16: nah, that would be the "Save 35th Ave" bitches. and look, it worked.

ride a city street on a bike sometime; it might change your opinion.

19

But it's electric.

Maybe there should be two lines for the ferries. The fast line is for electric vehicles.

21

I know going all Andy Rooney is fun, but the vast majority of drivers do turn off their engines while waiting for the ferry. What we've got here is a pet peeve, not a real problem.

Now let's talk about those double-wide strollers in the middle of our multi-use (not just bike) paths, or (shudder) our supermarket aisles...

22

Dear Katie -- I've heard (perhaps it's just a rumor!) that a potato shoved up a car's tailpipe is pretty effective (you'd need a cantaloupe for a diesel Megapikup). But, probably highly Illegal. (plus, guns). What if the Occupants died on their own Carbon Monoxicde?

How would you feel then?!

23

"My wife and I understand the issues at hand, we read the signs, we evaluate them and decide what to do." But whatever you do, don't bring a blankey. Let 'em (fawking whiners) Die!

Never mind, Katie.

24

@21: Amen on those strollers. They're huge!

25

Idling at drawbridges is also terrible.

26

"... because the ferry system is an extension of the state highway system, the rules of the road apply to ferry property, too. There's no state law against idling in your vehicle, so ferry employees can't really stop you from doing it."

Hmmm. I'd wager the rules are different when the cars are on the boats. Ferry workers seldom -- if ever -- allow drivers to idle during crossings. I've never seen a ferry worker lose an argument to a driver. Even on the Bainbridge boat, which is (typically) teeming with attorneys.

They shouldn't hafta breathe unnecessary auto emissions.
If you're chilled, it's warm upstairs.
It's just pragmatic.
Plus, elevator!

27

@26, WS Ferries are governed by the Coast Guard at sea, and the Coast Guard has regulations against cars idling while the vessel is underway.

28

@27 -- Thanks!

So, can I tell the ferry worker I can idle all the livelong day,
long as the boat's at the dock?

(All these damn Technicalities)...

29

More 'technicalties':

So, can I tell the ferry worker I can [Legally] idle all the livelong day,
long as the boat's at the dock?

Thanks, again!

30

I ride the Bainbridge Boat every weekday and idling is a real problem. When you idle with impunity you are announcing to the world that you don't give a fuck. Motherfuckers also start their damn cars on the boat before docking. A far worse offense because I can't escape that shit.

31

Build a tunnel, make the rich vacation home owners and island life lovers pay for it. Stop subsidizing rich people and claim we are helping the "working class" who commutes from the island to the main land.

32

@18 FYI 35th doesn't have room for a bike lane... and there is a parallel protected bike lane we just built 2 blocks East that runs through the neighborhood. You know.. safer. Do you need a sign to direct you?

33

Lol. This is like 1000x worse than plastic straws but because it's Katie everyone's like Fuck You. God you fucking plebes are reactionary and predictable.

Please wait...
