FAA owns up to cutting corners with Boeing: Federal Aviation Administration officials defended their choice to delegate some of the safety certifications for Boeings 737 MAX to Boeing. Because that makes sense. New reports allege that FAA officials were at times more worried about how quickly Boeing was going to get its plane off the assembly line and into the air than about safety. The FAA defended the move by saying this was common practice. Were they complicit in the almost 400 deaths the 737 MAX caused?

Trial for UW inauguration day shooter reaches climax: It was the night of Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony and professional-troll Milo Yiannopoulos was speaking at Kane Hall on the University of Washington campus. Protesters, including cloaked antifa members, flocked to Red Square. Scuffles broke out and, in one case, a man, who was a member of antifa, was shot in the belly. The shooter and her husband are currently in the midst of a five-week trial. On Wednesday, the woman who shot the man claimed it was in self-defense and that she feared for husband's life. She said the man she shot was charging her husband with a knife.

Crooked cop held on $1 million bail: This former Florida deputy is charged with, hold on it's long, "making false statements, tampering with evidence, false imprisonment, petit theft, and battery." That is not what you want in a man of the law! Steven O'Leary made 86 drug arrests. Some, especially the three incidents where he said there were drugs but there literally weren't any drugs, were wrongful arrests yet people were held in jail for several days.

I bless the future rains: It's August. That means we have to be on the lookout for fire season. Any rain that comes down this month will be a good defense for our impending doom. I assume, at least.

A HOT State Senate battle: North of Seattle there are people duking it out to fill Democratic Sen. Kevin Ranker's seat. Ranker stepped down early last Legislative session because of allegations that he harassed a female staffer. The district which is made up of San Juan County and bits of Skagit and Whatcom county was represented by Liz Lovelett, an Anacortes City Council member. Lovelett faces multiple competitors including fellow Democrat Carrie Blackwood who is giving her a run for her money.

What to do with these 25-acres of Seattle land? There's a sliver of Interbay that's about to be up for grabs. The National Guard has outgrown its armory and readiness center and will be picking up and moving. There's debate currently about what that site will become. Many want housing. It could support thousands of affordable units. Or, industry. The space could host almost 1,000 jobs! The housing advocates are vocal but many are concerned that the area isn't habitable—there's constant noise pollution, real emission-related pollution, contaminated soil, and more.

A moldy timeline for Seattle Children's Hospital: This year one patient died and five more were infected by mold in Seattle Children's operating rooms. Records show that Seattle Children's was concerned about this mold thing as far back as 2017. However, even after multiple inspections, the Department of Health didn't find anything concerning. Not until people started getting infected.

Now that's what I call teamwork:

Malaysian senator is worried about the men: What about the boys?? Mohamad Imran, a Malaysian senator, proposed a law that would protect accused assailants in sexual assault cases, not the victims. His proposal was a sexual harassment act that would “deal with the acts, speech or dressing of women that could seduce men into committing sex crimes." After backlash, Imran apologized despite still believing that women who are sexually harassed or assaulted are at fault. Because, c'mon, look at what they're wearing!

Okay, okay, this debate: It was night two of the second round of Democratic debates. Former Vice President Joe Biden took the brunt of the attacks. As the current frontrunner and biggest centrist on the stage, it was on Biden to prove to the doubters and critics that he was up to snuff. While he stayed afloat and had some glimmers of good moments, Biden's performance was not the assurance the Democratic party needed.

Was Cory Booker the winner? Biden was under siege and Sen. Kamala Harris faltered in her performance more than in the previous debate. Here's one of Booker's shining moments:

And then there was this:

Our boy Jay Inslee was there, too!: It may be his last appearance on the national stage if his fundraising numbers remain the same. But, he did have one victory. A real-life human wrote this article about Inslee:

As Stranger editor Christopher Frizzelle points out, this was scientifically proven wrong by our sex survey.
A gun control forum: Democratic presidential candidates will participate in the first-ever forum about gun safety. It will be hosted in Las Vegas on October 2, the two year anniversary of the Las Vegas mass shooting.

Epstein heads to trial: Jeffrey Epstein, the financier charged with sex trafficking, will have one million pages of discovery used during his trial. That includes materials seized from devices in Epstein's Manhattan home. The trial will happen next year. The prosecution is shooting for September 2020 while the prosecution would like a June trial. There is still time for accusers to come forward and be part of the case against Epstein.

Hong Kong is dealing with the dystopia head-on:

A wave-pool tsunami: Oh my god. The wave pool at this Chinese water park malfunctioned. It caused a tsunami that injured 44 people. Wave pools are freaky. Have you ever seen the deep end of a wave pool underwater???
