Imagine if that scarf got caught under the wheel!

“Delaying a scooter launch until the dead of winter would make a pilot program fall flat on its face.”

This would be a good thing. The scooters are going to cost twice as much and be half as useful as the share bikes, which will disappear quickly just like they have in other scooter cities. The profit margin on the scooters is higher, and at the end of the day that’s what matters to these private companies, not serving the transit needs of the public. Eventually the mayor will capitulate, the scooters will take over, and you’ll wonder what the fuck you were thinking.

Not sure how to square the characterization of scooters as “a viable last mile alternative” with the author’s concern that no one will ride them in the winter.

Do they no longer teach the concept of a "lame duck" in middle school?

@3,

We've had both shared scooters & bicycles down here in Portland for the better part of a year now. I live right outside the downtown core and honestly haven't personally seen any ill effect from them. Saw a couple guys wipe out a couple months ago, but they were bro-dorks trying to do tricks and had a good laugh about it. I would suggest sticking to that 3,000 unit limit, as our initial pilot program (with three licensed companies) was too much and we definitely DID have some some sidewalk congestion/littering issues, though those have been lessened under our current program..Just my experience anyway, plenty of legitimate concerns certainly exist.

Actually, the U Dist is filled with people using e-scooters, e-solowheels, e-skateboards and e-bikes, very few of who do so by following the rules of road and sidewalk usage.

If it's not a Pay-Till-Docked system that keeps charging users money until it's put in a designated charge/park location, it will be an utter failure, and go bankrupt just like Lyft and Uber and Reach will (all are losing money). People will toss those babies in the nearest lake/road/cesspool.

Just saw a guy with a full duffel bag of stolen car radios and decks a block from here, so you can imagine what this will do otherwise.

I can't wait to throw these things out of my way and off the sidewalks. The bikes are just so heavy and awkward. Lots of sharp edges too.

i used to think spiritual guidance through casters take controls over the mindset of the subject and deprive them of their personal free will, i was so wrong about it all time, i don't blame myself tho, i was just like everyone else who doesn't have knowledge of it until i was desperately in need of help to get an old friend back to my life and that was when Prophet Ibuda ( uniquelunarseer@ gmail com ), who taught and showed me that real love spells only helps re-ignite the fire of the feelings that was already there. For some people, various reasons like the lack of confidence or fear which buries the feelings of the person sometimes makes love not fully acknowledged. And love spells sets the right emotion for true love and feelings to grow from the depth of the heart. I used this simple love spell means from prophet ibuda also to put my relationship of 31 years back together in 2008 when my husband left home for months and filed for divorce. I and my husband didn't start seeing the importance of our love lives until i used the return lover back spell from prophet ibuda ( uniquelunarseer@ gmail com ) and we now treat each other with more respect and agrees to our separate ideas. WHAT A LOVELY MARRIAGE I HAVE NOW. you could use the email above or phone number +234 8100663964 to reach him for advice an help.

@3 you're 100% wrong on this. Unlike the bikes, people actually enjoy riding scooters and will utilize them.

13

Scooters shouldn't be on the sidewalk or in the street. Where are they intended to be used?

@12 Use them how?
