Here's today's news:

Rep. Chris Collins resigns: He is expected to plead guilty to charges of insider trading on Tuesday, reports the Washington Post. Collins, a Republican from New York, is accused of scheming "to avoid significant losses on a biotechnology investment." Collins was the first person in Congress to support Trump's presidential run.

Klobuchar came to town this morning: That's Amy Klobuchar, who is a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, in case you forgot. It looks like many people have, based on the polls. Klobuchar reminded Seattleites that she's never lost an election. There's a first time for everything, Amy!

There was a drive-by shooting at a Renton shopping center: At least one person was injured. Police are still looking for the shooter.

The iconic LA video store, Vidiots, is reopening in 2020: Long live physical media! The store will operate a new screening theater and host 50,000 titles. I don't mean to turn it into a pissing contest, but to turn it into a pissing contest: our hometown video library, Scarecrow, holds over 130,000 titles.

👀: Give Scarecrow money, you vidiots!

Heartburn medicine Zantac may contain "low levels of a cancer-causing chemical": Says the Food and Drug Administration. Walgreens and CVS are pulling the medicine from their shelves “while the FDA continues its review of the products," says a Walgreens spokesperson.

BE SAFE WHEN YOU GO HIKING!!!! More hikers were rescued over the weekend, with rescue crews saving a 41-year-old man and a 76-year-old man in two separate incidents. Both hikers experienced complications due to heavy snowfall in the mountains around Snohomish. Yes, heavy snow, IN SEPTEMBER. From KOMO:

According to UW research meteorologist Mark Albright, the 3 inches on the ground Sunday was tied for the second-most ever recorded on the ground—before Oct. 31! The other two dates were 5.9" on Oct. 22, 1957 and 3.3" on Oct. 25, 1975. Wow!

PCC is opening in West Seattle: West Seattle Blog has a first look if you're into that sort of thing. Personally, I find myself sexually attracted to bodegas.

The Big Tech boom in the Seattle area continues: Google confirmed it's purchased around 400,000 square feet of office space in Kirkland. Seattle apparently has the best "tech labor pool" in the country. "There are now more than 130 companies from around the globe that have set up engineering outposts in and around Seattle," writes Taylor Soper over at GeekWire.

Okay, on to impeachment news: The whistle-blower's lawyers have expressed "serious concerns" for the whistle-blower's safety. Those concerns became even more serious when Trump told reporters this afternoon that he is “trying to find out” about the whistle-blower, a comment that made legislators worry Trump is going to defy the federal protections the whistle-blower is entitled to. (Duh, of course is.)

Giuliani offered multiple opportunities to call Congress "idiots": He's been subpoenaed three times. From CNBC:

Three Democratic-led panels—the Intelligence, Oversight and Foreign Affairs committees—are demanding that Giuliani produce all text messages, phone records and other communications related to the “scheme” he is accused of perpetrating “in order to determine the full extent of this effort by the President and his Administration to press Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 presidential election.

Trump needs friends: In probably the buzziest news of the day, it was revealed that Trump "pressed" Australian prime minister Scott Morrison to help an investigation that was aimed to discredit the Mueller inquiry. The phone call between the two figures was first reported by the New York Times and then confirmed by the Australian government. "The discussion was another instance of the president using American diplomacy for potential personal gain," reads the New York Times's kicker. The National Review, however, is saying "the Australia story isn’t a story."

The fallout keeps growing: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was also on Trump's now-infamous July 25 phone call with the Ukrainian president. Pompeo's involvement in the call had not been previously reported. Three House committees have subpoenaed Pompeo—Foreign Affairs, Intelligence, and Oversight; the same three that subpoenaed Giuliani.

Trailer dump: First up, a new trailer for Kathryn Hahn's upcoming HBO show, Mrs. Fletcher.
