Shrill Incoming: ECB is already greatly offended my the mentioning of the fact the actress is pregnant. The patriarchy!

The dig about the pregnant actress was so unnecessary and just gross. People still need to work - whether they have a disability, are of a different "color", identify as another sexuality, or happen to be pregnant, vs whatever the character in question is known or described to be, and frankly theater doesn't have a lot of roles that are "traditionally" cast with people who don't fit certain molds. A beauty of theater is that we don't have to be strictly tied to source material when creating another interpretation if it means we get to be intentional about including people who may not have a lot of roles already designed "for them", introduce audiences to talent, and challenge our norms and assumptions for the better. Have you heard of Hamilton? Jane Austen wasn't pregnant, sure, but Aaron Burr wasn't black, and yet I cannot imagine a world without Leslie Odom Jr's spin on that role. We don't get that to have things like that if we don't make room for people who historically haven't had many (or any) places for them.
