Fun Fact I: Abbie Hoffman, who started the "Yippies", was the first to publicly WEAR THE AMERICAN FLAG AS CLOTHING. You can find the famous photo of a him in a flag suit coat on the roof of a tall building. --- Doing so was previously deemed illegal, as it "denigrated the flag". So it took a cultural revolutionary 60's activist to do it first. --- Now of course all the neo-patriot-proud-boy-pseudo-fash-conservo-nincompoops wear flag clothing & bandanas thinking they are being all USA#1!!! jingoists. Not even aware that a dirty stinking hippie led the way to their freedom.

Fun Fact II: Hoffman and the Yippies publicly threatened to put LSD in Chicago's water supply ahead of the 1968 Dem Nat'l Convention. This forced the Chicago mayor to hold a meeting with them. Hoffman allegedly said, "We can't actually do that...". The mayor replied, "We know that, but we don't have any choice."..but to have a meeting with the Yippie leadership.

They were supreme pranksters. Much respect.

I got to see Abbie Hoffman on the UW campus, late '60's I'm guessing.
I think it was maybe a room in the HUB? Pretty small space anyway.
Some people on this planet have this undeniable energy about them, this quality often characterized as 'charisma'.
Anyway, that guy had it in spades.
Left a big impression on me as a young man.
Every generation needs to find those people and give them scope to act.
