There was a whole big thing on Rod Dreher's blog at American Conservative about Paula White's heresies a couple weeks ago. There was some interesting history on prosperity gospel and the development of the self-help industry generally and links to Mary Baker Eddy and Christian Science.

Here's the thread I was remembering: https://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/the-evangelical-rot-deepens/

Its not as interesting as I remember it being. Must have been something I clicked through from a link in comments.

'Any persons [or] entities that are aligned against the president will be exposed and dealt with and overturned by the superior blood of Jesus." --fake prez's spiritual leader
who apparently thinks Jesus's blood must be pure White (red), to be spilled (violently) over thine Enemys of thy Donald J. trump, illegitimate + fake prez.

Ah, goody. In other words: if there's to be a Coup d'├ętat (Impeachment) (bad press report) (etc), let it not be bloodless.

And, we got The Jesus on OUR side.
Commies.

Where is the line where on one side, it's okay, and on the other, it's just fucking Treason? trump keeps draging and dragging and dragging that line --- why hasn't he wrapped himself up so far it'd take a seriously stable genius to untangle the basterd?

(No, not you, Rudi. But, I must just say, you've done quite well! Thank you for your Service[s])!

When you actually, you know, READ Ephesians 6:12, you see this:

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

She's taking it wildly out of context, because Turnip IS the "ruler", the "authoritarianies", and a "power of this dark world" (material world). Ephesians is saying the opposite of her meaning. And I seem to recall another entity that liked to take bible verses out of context for their own purposes...

Reading Wikipedia I recently discovered that the Evangelicals are essentially the direct theological descendants of the Puritans, with this one difference:

Whereas Puritans had to do real work to undergo "conversion" and may still not be accepted into God's heaven, all Evangelicals have to do is "be really sure!" they converted, and poof! they get in.

Puritanism's experiential piety would be inherited by the evangelical Protestants of the 18th century.[39] While Evangelical views on conversion were heavily influenced by Puritan theology, the Puritans believed that assurance of one's salvation was "rare, late and the fruit of struggle in the experience of believers", whereas Evangelicals believed that assurance was normative for all the truly converted.[41]

No wonder they come off as so condescending.
