After officially reuniting in 2012, Washington, DC-based post-punk outfit The Make-Up are embarking on a tour across the country. And, tonight, they are playing at Neumos alongside musician Seth Bogart and Seattle-based synth-powered outfit Dyed. Forming in 1995 and releasing four albums throughout the decade, The Make-Up's music is a curious and ambitious blend of gospel, garage, and yĂ©-yĂ© pop that all somehow jell together to create raucous, joyous sounds. Whether it’s parsing through desire by talking about which shape they are in “I Am Pentagon,” or offering up hysterically rambling paranoid theories about “them” in “They Live By Night,” The Make-Up push forward an agenda of sonic delights.

They are also known for wild and energetic live performances where they take gospel music's idea of the congregate and apply it to their audiences, treating us as a "fifth member." Using call and response vocals and physical destruction of the fourth wall, the crowd is invited to participate in the show. Which is to say, you should be prepared for anything to happen at this show.

Also this year, The Make-Up reissued their out-of-print album Save Yourself on LP through Black Gemini Records and Dischord Direct. It was originally released in 1999 on K Records, but this reissue has been remastered and recut. Here's them performing "I Am Pentagon" off that album:
