@1 if you saw the latest demographics, you'd see Seattle is turning more White and Hispanic and less Asian and Black. The latter have been pushed to the rest of King County by out-of-control rents.

3

I'm assuming city council members you speak of were voted in, but that's just a guess.

4

@1: What difference does it make what make and model council members are?

4,

The focus of the Left ought to remain on the economic empowerment of the working classes, and upon the replacement of institutional that have hitherto favoured only the investor class, with institutions that favour the workers. Identity politics is a mere distraction from what really matters.

To wit: what does it matter to a homeless person, be they Black, gay, female, a veteran, young, or old, that you have established blue ribbon committees to study equity, or that you use the correct pronouns, if they have no roof and they have no food? First, satisfy the basic survival needs, then worry about aesthetics. If an Amazon worker dies on the warehouse floor, does it matter whether you have misgendered the corpse?

The city council has only seven seats. There is an infinite number of human varieties, far more than the seven seats you have to fill with them. Ou could have every shade of melanin represented there, every gender and every sexuality, and while it would make for a beautiful poster photo for our tourism board to use to advertise our great city as one of inclusion where all are welcome, we need more than a photo op to address the problems our city faces. We need affordable housing for all. We need those who do the real labor that keeps this city humming to be protected from avoidable harm and death in the workplace, and to earn a wage that affords them and their families a lifestyle that is both enjoyable and healthy.

Identity politics is bullshit. Policies matter. I will not speak to the others, but at least in districts 2 and 3, there will be the origin of policies that protect the lives of those who sweat and bleed for this city. I hope the remainder of the city council seats will prove responsive to the ideas that originate from Morales and Sawant.

Pedersen's first act as head of the Transportation Committee will be to rename it the Department of Street Parking.

7

Isn't that a photo of the rich white lady who beat the black candidate is District 2?

8

"asking our communities to fight over crumbs"

The city's budget is $6.5 billion this year, in some places, that's more than crumbs.

9

$6.5 billion, austerity my ass. Up over 40% in 8 years. Thanks in large part to growth created and spurred by Amazon's investments and hiring in the city.

"The cost of Seattle's government grew faster than almost any major U.S. city over five years, propelled by surging tax collections and an expanded scope of government services."

@4 - Make & model can matter. For example, I am very concerned about the Pinto that was elected in D3 causing an explosion.

Seattle is fucked. These fucking clowns never ran a business in their life and want to make business decisions for everyone. Forcing landlords to stop evicting people and taxing them up the ass might make you feel better, but in the end it pushes out small landlords, consolidates ownership in the hands of out-of-state REITs and drives up rent for everyone.
Kinda like imposing anti-Amazon Head Tax that ends up fucking over teenage Dick's Burger workers.
Why make tough budgetary decisions when you can just "soak the rich" and call it a day?
Fucking amateur hour

Wow! Awesome (Tammy Morales, District 2, gets sworn in by her mother with her family at her side) pic, Lester!
Congrats.

I wonder if Amazon has anything that costs a million and a half dollars and does nothing?

Oh, look. I found an Egan Orion puppet for sale on amazon.com. It has these little strings attached to a model of Jeff Bezos’ hand. He used to cost a lot, but they’ve marked him down. And, he comes with free two day shipping.
