Interesting that we are told to buy local rather than spending money at Amazon (Seattle headquarters) or Costco (Issaquah headquarters).

2

It doesn't matter and points for honesty.

3

Actually, you should buy it from a used bookstore.

4

@2 agreed. There wouldn't be much progress of any kind if we required advocates to live in the future they're trying to realize. Of course, to be consistent one would also need to apply that logic to the acceptance of corporate cash by certain political rivals, who themselves may not be fans of big money in politics but who accept it because that's how the game is played (for now).

5

Don't call it a tax. Think of it as a rebate.

You can still pick up toner carts at the Office Depot in SoDo.

6

Really disappointed about the campaign's decision to spend $$$ at Amazon in lieu of local business. In a capitalist society one's voice carries little value; instead, our currency is our voice, and where we spend that currency matters. $$$ is the only language the powerful understand.

8

And this shall pass...when we enter the next recession.

9

What @6 said. There are plenty of alternatives to Amazon. Itā€™s not that hard and optics/perceptions matter.

10

Were Amazon to pay its Fair Share
would that make them ok to patronize?

(Other than their Decimation of [some] local businesses
Planet-wide)...

11

Amazon's competitors are worse in every way. What the hell are they supposed to do?

12

I have no problem with boycotting Amazon. NOBODY is worth $116.7 billion (as of 2020; you can Google it). Jeff Bezos doesn't need any more money, and right spot ON that Seattle voters knew better than to let Amazon but the 2019 City Council election.
Enjoy your $1,500,000.00 green sock puppet, Jeff.

13

@12: Arrrrghhh!!! Make that: ...."and right spot ON that Seattle voters knew better than to let Amazon buy the 2019 City Council election".
Griz needs to drink more. I end up with fewer typos that way.

"There wouldn't be much progress of any kind if we required advocates to live in the future they're trying to realize."

Ah yes, a future without convenience or good service when the folks who run the DMV nationalize Amazon.

What's your take on Sebi's or piroshky?

Amazon has done more for workers than Sawant could ever dream of accomplishing. She takes credit for the $15 min wage she had nothing to do with and would have passed without her. Meanwhile, Amazon already instituted a $15 wage nationwide... and got Walmart the largest employer in America to copy them...
Sawant also owes her entire re-election to Amazon's foolish $1 million donation that pitted every single voter against corporate money and says nothing about how people actually feel about Sawant's incompetence.
