Our dysfunctional mess already costs multiple times what countries like Canada pay for single payer that covers everyone. That’s what gives them pricing power and negotiation leverage. So you’re saying that we should continue to pay for the privilege of being ripped off by the private insurance industry.

As someone on Medicare and Social Security, I was interested in the cuts in the new budget. The cuts aren't for benefits, but for costs. The budget plans on paying less for the cost of things like prescription drugs. The benefits will not be cut.

@20 -- the scuffle occurred on the Dome floor, directly behind the non-video-media gated area. There were toddlers walking their parents around, just hanging out about fifty feet away, but they'd wandered over there a bit before, as well; when the scuffle broke out, some of the older toddlers, being random (apparently), decided to head that direction, which alarmed the parents into racing ahead of their kids, and then moving them well away. So, yeah, anything thrown with them toddling around could have easily led to a possibly-serious injury.

AFAIK there's no contradiction between having a single payer system & individuals choosing to purchase additional private insurance. People do it in Europe too right? And reasons are obvious- someone wants extra care or faster or wants to go to places where they won't be surrounded by the poor. People like exclusion. Same reason you have VIP lounges and private prep schools etc. I fail to see how the existence of rich people who want extras is in any way an argument against M4A.

Aside from the obvious human rights benefits, I think the biggest impact of M4A would be separating health insurance from the job. If your health care is a part of your benefits package, you could end up seeing a pay increase. Small business owners could hire more people. And I know loads of people who would quit their current jobs and do something very different if not for the fact that they need the health care plans.

We have an incredibly stupid and cruel and expensive system and it's just mind blowing that so many Americans have to fight so hard to have something that every other developed country figured out decades ago.

Mind blowing to me is we have so many with crappy 'health' care, Defending the current system of Corporate Skim.
