Like Kevin in A Fish Called Wanda, stuck fast in Limey cement, waiting for KKKKen to run him over with a Steamroller, yonder cometh a 'forty foot wall of molasses' aka the Boston Molassacre.

Dude.

So, trump's the molasses, or is he
the failing Tank that 'contains' COVIS-19?

2

It’s pretty wild that we’re just waiting for people to get sick and die before we figure out where the outbreaks are — which is going to be everywhere in a week or 2 — because that means there are hundreds to thousands of subclinical cases spreading disease throughout the community. The richest country in the world is so, so bad at caring for its people.

"Microsoft will keep paying its hourly workers... " thru COVIS-19 pandemic.

Good on you, Microsoft.

Will the Richest Family* in the USA
do the same with their Employees?

Not if They can get Away with it.

And they're very very Good at getting away with it.
(see: Walmart signing their 'valued' (yet very poorly-paid) employees up for Welfare, 'cause they pay crap wages -- which, on its face, is Corporate Welfare.)

*the Waltons who own Walmart
not the Decent ones depicted in ole Virginny

COVID represents the victory of Hysteria over Science.
There is no evidence this is any worse or more lethal than the regular flu,
Absolutely no need for shutdowns.

The media makes coin off of terrifying the ignorant credulous masses.

5

4 I have no doubt you actually believe that but this is one of those rare events where having no social contact whatsoever with other people might be of benefit to you

Interesting observation from vox.com:

Finally, there’s the possibility the virus will simply die out. “Disease outbreaks are a bit like fires,” Resnick wrote. “The virus is the flame. Susceptible people are the fuel. Eventually, a fire burns itself out if it runs out of kindling. A virus outbreak will end when it stops finding susceptible people to infect.”

Can we Fire Trump yet?

Asking for a nation.

@4
Yes, it is worse than the 'regular' flu - covid-19 is more efficient at killing people in the highest risk categories.
There's a reason why people get the flu shot every year - perhaps you have had one.
In any event, hysteria aside, if this teaches the general population to wash hands more often, and pay attention to the spread of germs, it will have a positive effect.

10

9
You don't know how efficient COVID is at killing because you have no idea how many people have had it.
You only know how many were tested.

11

@10 - Next you’ll be telling us there’s no way to know about climate change because we can’t predict the weather with 100% accuracy.

12

I literally just talked to a public health and epidemiology PhD about what you are arguing. Her response was that yes not that many people have been tested, but that they are pretty good at extrapolating from symptoms reported to estimates of how many people probably have it. The notion is that for nearly all people if you get it you're going to be fine but you're going to know that you have it. It's not exact science, but that doesn't mean they can't have some idea of what a likely range of mortality rates is.

13

We don’t know the exact mortality rate for any disease because it’s not feasible to test everyone but we can estimate disease prevalence with enough accuracy to be of practical use. People act like science is just a bunch of monkeys with typewriters but there is a method to it that has served humanity remarkably well.

14

@9 do you know COVID-19 is more efficient at killing people in the highest risk categories? Of all the people who have died in WA State, would the flu have killed them too?

15

@13 Yes, but the current mortality rate used by WHO is # of deaths/# of confirmed cases not # of deaths/estimated cases.

16

There are more sophisticated estimates of the mortality rate than what the who is reporting

17

There is reason to think that, for various reasons, we are underestimating the total number of cases worldwide. The death rate may be lower than current estimates. That said, we have no herd immunity against this virus and no vaccine for it. It is quite possible that most Americans will contract the virus and the absolute number of deaths will be large. Warm weather may help. It helps with most viruses but we don't know for sure about this one.

I have a friend in the medical community in Iran. She says that conditions there are horrible. Everyone is trapped inside their homes. Infection rates are very high. The morgues are full. And the government is trying to do everything it can to hide the facts.

18

“Boston Molassacre” made me elle oh elle!

19

Harvery W is in RIKERS. That place really is hell on earth. His phony help-walker act will not fly there.
Rikers was too tough for Sid Vicious, BTW. He got raped there a lot.

20

"You don't know how efficient COVID is at killing because you have no idea how many people have had it.
You only know how many were tested."

This is the same for the regular flu, Einstein. We model the regular flu by doctors reporting patients and hospital reports. The vast majority of flu patients do not see medical treatment. They use exactly the same epidemiological models for both.

21

What a cosmic joke, for America to finally be swept into a worldwide virus panic when we have a notorious coward and germophobe as its leader. Thankfully we here on Slog have the screeches of account-hopping anonymous trolls to allay our fears.

22

@10 is correct and it's been spreading since Trump was informed back in late October (not the later date they tell you).

Wash your hands with soap and water.

22

@20 You're right, but in this situation there is reason to believe that some governments are under reporting the number of total cases for political and economic reasons. It is harder to under report deaths but Iran proves that it can be done.

23

@21 So Trump cancelled a visit to the CDC because he heard tell someone there has COVID, wonder what he will do if someone at the White House catches the virus. And what will happen if someone coughs around Trump at one of his rallies? Will they be attacked by the Secret Service?

Oh, and this morning Trump blamed his admin. foot-dragging response on an Obama rule that DOESN'T EXIST. The MAGA Pres. is making America great at The Buck Stop THERE! All accountability ended 3 years ago.

24

It's all fun and games until you get intubated in the ICU. You dont have to be old to be acute if you have a hyperimmune response with pneumonia and suffocate on your own secretions. You will likely be fine, but even healthy people are not invincible. It is more dangerous than the flu because people lack the antibodies to fight it off quickly. However, as it makes its way through the population, it will become under control if we trust in science and make a measured public health response.

Keep your immune system under control and reduce your stress as best you can.

Gotta admire the fuckoutta fake 'prez,' dying to keep 'his numbers' down, hoping infected Giant cruise ship/petri dish won't Unload in America, and thereby really fucking with fake 'prez's' 'numbers.'

They're not 'Citizens' -- they're just statictics.
My gawd how FAR we've Fallen.
Thanks, Repubs.
