Wow, way to feel the hate against sick people Rat City.
Between Trump and the Seattle Process, we all suffer. I do have to chuckle that now The Stranger thinks NIMBYism is acceptable.

I love Girmay, but since the quarantine site should be on Mercer Island or The Highlands, this is the best alternate site.
They did it because it’s cheap and nobody there can fight it even though if something went wrong, the community itself has less resources to deal with it than every neighborhood surrounding it.
Infection rates double every ~ 4 days. Following the Seattle Process will kill people.
Rich, you're way off base here. People need to be in close contact to spread CoronaVirus, within a few yards. I'm not expecting a lot of people from the neighborhood will be wandering through the quarantine site and, pretty much by definition, the people inside are quarantined and won't be wandering around the neighborhood. I'm not seeing the risk.
If you truly cared about the people in White Center, you'd be working to get rid of the kinds of places where the virus has been proven to spread; schools, doctors offices, assisted living facilities, grocery stores, etc... Why would you never question the kinds of places where the virus has been proven to spread but question the facilities that are trying to limit the spread and haven't proven to be a danger?
My parents live a few block from there...just on the other side of 509. It's kind of stretch to call that White Center, it's more Boulevard Park/Top Hat. White Center proper is way more hipsterville than Top Hat. My mom went to Evergreen, and they definitely didn't call that neighborhood White Center...at least back in the day.
It's Top Hat. At least that's mentioned once in this story. Regional media have been all over the map, so to speak ... one TV person even insisted on repeatedly referring to it as West Seattle. That was funny considering it's more common for TV people to mislabel going the other way, proclaiming locations to be part of White Center starting as far north as SW Thistle. But I digress.
If you have an unlimited amount of time and money, then place the center in Bellevue or Mercer Island. Unfortunately this is a situation where if you don't act fast and dirty, it will cost many thousands of lives. I don't think you'll see patients breaking out of their rooms and roaming the streets. They should however have restrictions on the movement of staff in the area.
