The difference in infections will be 15,000 if people do what they're told and 150,000 or more if they don't. We have to rely on people not being assholes.

Good to see Amazon stepping in during these hard times. Might be a good way to help some of the service sector workers carry on:

"Amazon said Monday that it needs to hire 100,000 people across the U.S. to keep up with a crush of orders as the coronavirus spreads and keeps more people at home, shopping online.

The online retailer said it will also temporarily raise pay by $2 an hour through the end of April for hourly employees. That includes workers at its warehouses, delivery centers and Whole Foods grocery stores, all of whom make at least $15 an hour. Employees in the United Kingdom and other European countries will get a similar raise.

ā€œWe are seeing a significant increase in demand, which means our labor needs are unprecedented for this time of year,ā€ said Dave Clark, who oversees Amazonā€™s warehouse and delivery network."

Just so you know Inslee is running for Governor... this is his campaign, who can be the "hardest" and baddest."
Listen, I voted for Hillary, I voted for Biden not Bernie... but Inslee by any standard is a bad Governor. He just sucks balls. He's fucking terrible. I don't want to hate on his speech ability physically but that aide he can't even fucking talk or make a point or finish a sentence and goes into the same insane poltiical diatribtes that Trump does about GOP politics patting himself on the back while people are suffering due to his inability to govern.
Trump called him a snake, OK dumb and Trumpian, but Inslee's response is to put out press release after interview stating "no one in my admin or me is even considering quarantine or cutting travel to Washington" Trump is a liar blah blah blah. OK, so he called you mean names and so now you come out strong against something you "aren't even considering" during unprecedented times that probably warrant SOMEONE considering the worse? Not to mention he is pulling a Bloomberg and running for an unprecedented 3rd term as Governor breaking the unspoken rule against that BS because he barely won every single one of his elections and hasn't gotten anything done while in power? Seriously, Democrats, this guy is a joke and we have the best and brightest in the nation living here but we got the fucking idiot clown from Yakima to run things?

Turn on Fox news. President Deals is reassuring the American people. You can watch the market crash in real time as he speaks in the lower right corner.
Good at business.

5

Iā€™m not even concerned about contracting the virus. The economic shock wave thatā€™s gonna hit us in about three weeks is like looking up to see a grand piano falling on our heads, and thereā€™s just nothing we can do about it.

8

The market crashed because Trump told Powell if he didn't lower interest rates, he was fired. So, Powell lowered them to zero. Interest rates at zero is a psychological killer. The Fed now has no more ammunition and is now impotent except for buying US Treasuries. That spooked the markets like nothing else ever has.

Trump can't even run a casino, a machine for minting money, without putting it into bankruptcy. If he were suddenly no longer president, the market would go up immediately.

10

@9 I've no doubt you're right.

11

So how soon until you think we follow SF and shut this sucker down?

There's no point for Inslee to continue event bans and school closures except he wants to look tough. Germany has already acknowledged 70% of its population will eventually get C19 and the University of Chicago says that for 80% of people it's no worse than a bad cold.

Tell everyone to go about their daily business and - instead of sprinkling scarce resources on tiny benefits increases to everyone - surge huge benefits increases (i.e. 5 months automatic unemployment) to the 20% of the population that's most vulnerable coupled with a PSA campaign encouraging self-isolation among that group.

Everyone is going to get infected regardless of what we do. Inslee's approach only delays the inevitable and Deep-Sixes the economy in the process.

13

@12 -- "Inslee's approach only delays the inevitable."

see: @1 "The difference in infections will be 15,000
if people do what they're told and 150,000 or more if they don't."

So, yeah, Bingo: DELAY the Inevitable
and maybe -- just Maybe! -- we won't
Overtax our Healtcare Systems.

Sound GOOD?
That's what I
thought.

14

@13 source? Other than "@1?"

Everyone is going to get infected. Including you. Stop burying your head in the sand and pretending you can legislate or regulate a virus. Inslee seems to think COVID 19 respects the Revised Code of Washington. It doesn't. Lift the closures and let it run its course. Focus limited resources on saving the most vulnerable instead of sprinkling said resources around like Halloween candy.

Critical thinking is a choice, kid. No one can make it for you.

15

Kristofarian - you seem very frightened and scared. You need to figure out a way to deal with your fear because you're going to be infected in the coming weeks. You personally. That is a fact as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow. Daily meditations to Papa Jay won't change what is about to happen to you. But you're an adult and you have the potential to survive if you calm your shit down.

"50% of Americans will contract the virus (150m people) as it's very communicable." -- readout of today's GS investor call

Time to accept the inevitable and return to normal. The fired Stranger reporters should start applying for one of the new Amazon warehouse jobs. The vacay is over.

18

To the people saying we all go out for the herd immunity, are you all high? Interesting that NONE of the experts managing this crisis think that is the way to go about it without completely overwhelming our hospitals. You're all just speaking out of your buttholes.

@Troll -- "Lift the closures and let it [C-19] run its course."

DANGEROUS Advice in a fucking Pandemic.
Treasonous I call it.

Q. Should it be a Capital Crime?
Probably.
