Good decision. Taxation without representation is always a bad idea.

It’s almost comical considering that these judges themselves will be jobless in under a year when the state is insolvent and unable to pay their salaries.

I’m sure their willingness to sacrifice themselves on the alter of insatiable greed and racist hatred will be duly noted by whomever survives the collapse.

@ 5,

The state’s lack of diversified revenue streams, combined with the corrupt refusal to tax the rich who’ve greedily hoarded all the money is what will lead to the collapse.
Adopting a progressive taxation structure at some point in the last decade could’ve ensured that the cities/counties/state could’ve limped through another recession. That’s not going to happen, and an insolvency collapse is inevitable now.

@1 like Washington, D.C.? Like the entire population of poor people in this country? There is a shit ton of taxation without representation in this country. Defending billionaires, who thanks to Citizens United can buy any representation they want and fully own every last one of our "representatives" is asinine.

@8 xina: For the WIN! Thank you for nailing it and beating me to it.

@10
Reread the quote you posted, and get back to us when you understand it

@15 All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others, I've heard it said.

"low-wage earners in Washington pay nearly 18% of their income in taxes"

Do they tax weed and rent?

18

Funny how fake hypocrites accuse Republicans of double standards then turn around and try to pass illegal and unconstitutional taxes and are upset judicial activism can’t make it up as they go along to back up their lies. Sorta like slowly stripping away women’s reproductive rights.

@14
If you noticed, which you didn't, i wasn't referring to the second part of his post, but the quote he used in his attempted straw man. 18% vs 3% are the relevant numbers, and if you think it's ok for poor ppl to pay 18% they can't afford, while the swells merely get away with 3% they'll barely notice while simultaneously using vastly more state resources, may i suggest you go play on the freeway.

It is amusing to the rest of the world how Washington State claims to be this enlightened 'progressive' trendsetter but doesn't manage to find a way to tax the income of it's prosperous residents.
Prosperous Seattle "Progressives" like the idea of taxing the "rich" and "giving back" and "paying their fair share" but not so much the reality.
Similar to how they want to lecture the world on race relations but somehow are not willing to raise their own teeny tiny population of blacks to equality with the rest of the city.

I'm not sure where the 3% number comes from. Rich, can we get a source?
