Inslee is a MadMan !
He's trying to kill us all !!
Doesn't he know we're in a PANDEMIC !?!?!

This is what government is.
This is why we have government, to weigh evidence and make these very tough decisions that balance competing interests and values.
I just bring it up because this should be a teachable moment for a lot of naive people who have embraced a political ideology of libertarian-lite.
The market cannot be allowed to make these decisions and there exists no mandarin class of technocrats tasked with these decisions.

Why build anything right now?

8

Stuff that's safe to do right now:

1 - pour cement forms

2 - build cement forms

3 - fix roofs (if damaged)

4 - put up exterior cladding and framing

5 - run backhoes and front end loaders

Unsafe: pretty much everything else, almost all puts you too close to other people.

(caveat: I used to build houses as a kid and run equipment like 5, no I don't care how you think you're actually safe when you aren't - run a camera and shut down any job site that violates the 6 foot rule for 2 weeks)

Oh, and you can also pour driveways and do most road repairs

Construction is essential to the economy, public safety, and infrastructure to name a few. Much of the work is done outdoors, and distance can still be maintained while inside. Seems like a decent plan coming from industry and elected officials who care for their business, employees and constituencies.

Thank goodness, I was missing the sounds of power tools and yelling at 8am. And we definitely dont have enough bland and uninspiring cookie cutter apartment buildings yet.

"Oh, and you can also pour driveways... " --@Will

So, all those screeders and floaters and finishers and laborers can all stay 6' apart? Not being one but having participated in a few pours, I'm somehow just not picturing it -- but would love to be wrong.

Thanks, Will.

@4 & @6: Siding with your fellow 404s again, Buzzy Nutz? Be a good little boy, zip your fly, spray yourself thoroughly with industrial sized Raid, and maybe the buzzing around your head will stop.
@9 CMDwannabe: O.....kay. But I really don't see the "essential need" for the construction of one million new apartment buildings and condos, especially if 99% of them are to remain empty until further notice. A lot of existing new buildings are sitting vacant where I live. I find the multitude of "For Lease" signs in once wide open, wooded or pastoral areas depressing.
@10 Brent Gumbo: Your biting sarcasm is delightful. Don't ever stop.

Lots of unfinished construction, materials being stolen, they gotta finish.

15

@1: Who are the "We" in "you know WE'RE right" ?

16

It's going to take hundreds more thousands of dead Americans to convince Trump voters - maybe millions - to finally shut up and abide by public health officials who know better than a clown who tells people to inject themselves with bleach to protect themselves.

@apr -- twuly, twumpfy's weddle schnowfwakes Are being "oppressed" -- for the Very First Time in their Highly-Sheltered Lives and they're suddenly REAL-lizing -- it's pretty fucking PAIN full.

(Wait'll they get a taste of Equality -- their screams/Howls will be Deafening -- like not getting one's Newspaper at the appointed hour and Cocktails and Dinner will be Late. Again.)

Please wait...
